Please dont laugh, but I need some advice on the following EQ settings. I use Cubase SX and I have a 15 band 2/3 octave, 12db boost or cut EQ plugin which I would like to set up to imitate a hi fi setup for Classical, Rock, Pop, and Dance, so that I can get a little idea what my music will sound like on average, with different hifi setups. The frequencies are as follows:
25hz.40hz.63hz.100hz.160hz.250hz.400hz.630hz.1khz.
1.6khz. 2.5khz. 4khz. 6.3khz. 10khz. 16khz.I have set up my own settings but would appreciate what settings you think is a good start.

I do understand what you are saying, but here is my sinareo, I play a cd thru my computer which goes to my mackie desk, the output of the mackie goes to a switch box that can switch between 2 seperate hifi systems and my yamaha smp5s. I listen to the cd and set up the hifi systems to my taste and the cd sounds great, (same too when playing thru Cubase SX,) but when I switch to the yams they sound quite flat of course,so that is why I thought of putting a eq before the yams to try to roughly imitate hifi systems, I even thought of taking the speaker outs of the hifi 6 ohms and with resistors feeding it to the 10k input of the yams. Not wise?? I have so much to learn and really appreciate your patience and time.

I would suggest a path similar to what Michael is saying. Don't EQ your Yamahas. Pick one set of speakers you want to work with and get to know them really well. Take a major label cd in a similar genre to what you are mixing and load one song into your cubase project as a reference. Then flip between your mix and the ref track. This will let you know if you are "in the ballpark".

you can feed the yamaha's from one of the consumer systems either out of the tape out or vcr out, this is line level and you can feed it directly to the yamaha's. if you were to feed them out of the hi level outputs, you would need to use a transformer to step it down. The yamaha's are designed to sound unflattering and cold. Like the yamaha's ns10's, if you can make something sound good on these, it should sound good on a consumer system. The consumer system is designed to hype the sound. I would use both as they were designed.

Many thanks for your patience. Yes Doug I will now start putting my favorite track from cd into SX. To Micheal, I did what you sugested too, I fed the Yams from a TV outs socket on my Hi Fi system,(the only outputs) so that with the mute switch on my HiFi I can imediately mute the sound from the HiFi system and the sound still goes to the Yams. I even listened to my cd thru both systems at once and it sounds really nice. Here we go again, what I would like to do now is make a switch box between the tv outs and the Yams to be able to switch to my headphones which are AKG- K240, can this be done and if so what value resistors and how would I wire it? I am a DIY so no problems in making and wireing. Thanks again to you both, keep up the good work helping me and many others on this forum.

these settings are subjective and differ from system to system. compensating for these eq settings will drive you crazy. you best bet would be to take a cd that you really like the sound of and try to come as close to that as you can. If your working on pro monitors, they will not sound the same as consumer systems so even if you were to duplicate these settings, it wouldn't sound the same on a consumer system.
