Old geezer here again. Just joined the group to impart my age-old recording wisdom on people to the point of tears of boredom...

Not to stir the pot too much, but like a lot of musicians I am also a wordie.. Is the proper term "micing"? To me that looks like a rodent. I thought the terms were "microphone", or "mic" for short, but when you add the "ing" the accepted spelling is "miking". Has that changed since I picked up the recording bug for the 2nd time?

hee hee hee ... that's funny greg.

I have always thought that Mike was someone I knew and that he actually prefered to be called Michael ... but acording to Yons link I must be wrong (good one Yon).

I think the confusion stems from the word microphone being spelled with a "k" in German, mikrophon ... But seeing that I speak English, I spell it microphone.. and mic and micing..

I'm sure there is no one following this thread any more, but it came up in a Google search today and made my day. Particularly because I'm Michael, looking "to mic" something, which I'm certain is a verb by now. I'm going with "mic'ing" for now, but am completely off the fence about Tunisia. Thanks for the warning!

These days, we're just trying to get a good sound over Zoom...sigh....

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I signed up just to respond.

Cheers!

Mick or Michael is mic'ed!

I've been miking things for a very long time. My mic collection is pretty decent. I'd never put a Mike on anything, and as for micing or even worse, mic'ing they leave me cold.

I used to get rattled by it but don't really care. Fifteen years ago I used to justify it - now it's a waste of heartbeats. If you want to say mic'ing and I say miking, let's call it a draw.
