The build I did during the Covid shutdown has just started to be advertised and is earning some money, so I thought I'd share the picture of it they're using. The wall wasn't blue when I left!

I'm quite pleased with this one. The two guys who run the company both have studios and they track in one and mix in this one. They have the computers synced via a nas. I was impressed with that system enough to buy one for myself and now my audio studio and video studio about a mile apart are now linked the same way. For them the two studio approach works really well, and Ben can work in his new space for extended periods. I've never done soffit mounted speakers before and the angles were pretty tricky to physically get right, especially as the space is not quite symmetrical to avoid an unmovable obstruction. The speakers definitely sound better and 'bigger' flush mounted, and the switches on the back sorted the bass boost out nicely. The only snag we had was electrical. The MCBs had to be changed to type C because onrush current prevented the one switch turn on working, with the speakers being the culprits.

My downstairs work is almost done on the new room. I'll be joining them via AVB, one Motu 828ES in new room and a Studio Live 16 series 3 in main. It's going to an interesting exercise. I'm planning to keep the Apollo Quad TB3 for it's extra XLR inputs and possibly the old Traveller Mk3 for it's inputs for extra mics.. I'll see. I look at rooms like that and dream now, not going to happen. I have to compromise and do some traps and deflectors and that'll be her.

So are they editing the files directly from the nas? Are they recording directly to it?

Yep. In their case, they have a nas at both ends cabled to the two computers. My one just has one NAS, in my audio studio, but it syncs to the computer in the office so the two systems can operate independently. My studio now is running all audio files from the NAS, over the network here. I moved all the files on the audio PC to the NAS, and it seems to work flawlessly. I think loading in samples from Kontakt takes a little longer - but in terms of track count and plugins it works the same as before. In the video studio, 5 mins away, I can load up the same song - make some edits or add a bit extra, and save it with a new version number and back home, load that one and carry on working. No grief at all.

Very cool.
