How do you like the new forum?

Submitted by audiokid on Tue, 12/29/2020 - 19:26

I waited almost 2 years to upgrade our forum. Today its now current. There are some things that may not migrate over but I'm working on it.

How do you like it so far? Any suggestions?

Which CMS were you looking at? Would adding a CMS increase the vulnerability of the site to malware and hacks in general?

I’ve been working with Drupal for years so that would be my choice. It’s very secure

just brain storming here...
Once we open it up to the community, The term “Self Serving” is no longer something negative because what each member contributes, they are also helping the community because we are all connecting us together in various ways, talents services etc etc .
Blogs, articles, endless categories and a taxonomy that joins everything “recording related” hundreds of interactive functions which can always be directed to our forums. Everything can be cross linked which is the idea of a content management system.

the system would be what each member wants out of it.

How well are bots filtered from your page view numbers?

Not sure as I didn’t design it. The data says (rough guess) there appears to be about 10% of our traffic are bots. Add another 20% and I think that might be more accurate.

Bot numbers are always a guess. But your estimates seem reasonable.

Just wondering about the increased visitor numbers, as any complete change of a site will cause most of the bots to reindex the entire site. Even being offline for a month or so will cause that too. Sometimes people take that for an increase in visitor numbers.

Maybe this addon can help?

I think the CMS would be great. So much genius gets buried in threads, it would be great to have a way to keep evergreen content more acessable. If the majority of guests are using RO for research as opposed to conversation, having things more like "published" material might make sense, especially when video/graphics can be included.

Where ya been, pal? I hope all is OK.

Hi Bos. :)
All is well.
My journey over the past few years had my focus shifting onto different things, but I won’t bore you with details.
I felt that it had been far too long since I was last here, so I thought I’d pop in and say hello to my old friends.
I hope that you, Chris, and everyone else here on RO, are all doing okay.

hey Donny! good to hear from you. don't be such a stranger. hope you are well.

Old pal :)
I thought of you a few weeks ago; you popped into my head while I was reading an SOS article on an Audient console, thinking, “Well, I know that Kurt Foster would give me his blessing to buy this!” (Unfortunately, I currently lack the funds equivalent to both a lung and a kidney to make that actually happen). ;)
I plan on being around RO a bit more frequently, as time allows.
I hope you have been well, and are doing okay.
