I have this synthesized bass that I need to be really bassy - [around 40-60hz]. I'm trying to the thing is across the level I set it at. Should I put it at a level that you can _almost_ hear [because I have to keep in mind bass boosts on stereos]? Any suggestions?

[note: I'm new to recording, I have no job in recording; I'm 16 with a hobby]

It is really hard to answer your question without being sure what you're trying to accomplish. Usually you mix your music the way you want it to sound. Most Stereos can mean anything..boom boxes, home surround systems, car systems, etc. All with different sound reproduction abilities.

I suggest you mix your song and listen to it on different systems to see how it sounds. You can boost low bass (40-60) or mid bass (around 125) to achieve punch or thud or whatever you are trying to achieve.

You also don't say what you are using for your final mix medium. Are you using CD or cassette or mini disk? Each has it's own sonic characteristics. Just keep trying until you get what you want.
