I have a mix coming up where I will be mixing tracks recorded directly to Pro Tools. I will be mixing on an API or vintage Neve and probably to 1/2". What suggestions can any of you experienced mixers give me to help shape and glue the tracks togather? Any ideas will be appreciated even if you think it might be obvious. Thanks.

Have as many interface out as there are tracks recorded..

Try to use Apogee AD8000SE interfaces

If you have to use stock converters - hire in an Ardsync II or similar ext clock device (and enough w/c cableing), it will make ALL AUDIO running out of the stock 888/24's sound MUCH improved. And no, a USD doesnt count..

Hire in a Fatso or two to take the edge off the worst affected - 'priority' tracks... (and dont belive a distressor will do this 'just as well'- it wont)

Save the valve compression for the edgey 'ofenders' .

Avoid plug ins.

Just mix the sucker

Amen Julian.

I'd go even further and suggest you use the Fatsos and submix, bounce tracks if you have to to get it on as many pairs as possible. Or look at some kind of similar fix at mastering.

Mc Snare!

TRy this one for a vintage neve type mix.

Bring all Alishad outputs back onto neve. mix as u would normally do then have a Al smart SSL C2 compressor to the 2-bus all punchy and vibey then pipe that into a manley variable MU or avalon 747 and put ya feet up! add a touch of nice EQ like an Avalon, GML or pultec ( if ya can find a good matched pair) or massive passive post compression to 1/2" and it will sound FANTASTIC!.

I often place stero mix into C2-->Manley VARIABLE MU --> matched pair of Manley mastering pultecs fro a bit o'top and bottom--> ampex ATR100 1/2" or 1/4" depending on song--> Tres` Bien!!!!!!!

PEACE
