Anyone still got a pair of Auratones?

GREAT little monitors. NO cross over so the midreange is immensely more accurate than most any monitor with a crossover (and since the mid's are where it's really at); great for vocal rides.
Put a pair on mic stands, as two corners of an equilateral triangle with the mic as the third corner (and maybe flip out of phase) and you've got a great cue setup for singers that sing flat with cans.
Great way to excite a snare (lay an auratone on top of two drumsticks taped on top of a snare drum. mic the bottom...send an aux send off of the overlycompressed snare that doesn't have enough of the "snares" that you just got to mix. blend it in to taste).

Oh the joy's of H"aurotones"

LUV em.....

we just hooked up our old pair to the mono output of out neve 8024 and have been kicking it old school!!!

They are so good for getting the levels right and in the 'sweet spot'.. they dont impress the A&R crew but screw them thats what the soffit mounted wall jobs are for! but he end results that we have achieved with them sure enough impresses teh clients!... which is where its at!!!

I heard Alan moulder mixes nearly exlcusivenyl on these and NS10's????? any truth to this or is this just more WWW heresay?

They give exact stereo-image, and are great for levelling and detecting compression(artifacts), just lOOve them.

There's different SC5 models around, the real (brown) cubes, the brown cubes with plastic cable attachment and a new issue in black with a different speaker and more top and bottom end, if you can call it bottom or top. They also come in a shielded version...and is it not the studer halfinch speaker, that got famous for remiking odd snaredrums?

Peace, Niko

I've always seen/used an auratone for this

Yeah, for taping it on a snaredrum, a Studer is kind of unhandy...

Hey...could you tape the snare to the studer?
How about taping the drummer to the the singer....

Hi, anybody ever heard of Philips 9710 speakers?

I have a pair of them, very famous speakers from the late 50's/early 60's I guess.

The only speaker that can do 20hz>20khz and like the auratones only one sound source.

Very bright sounding speaker, but also very good sound and great stereo image.

Peace, Han

I will remove one of the 9710's from its housing and take a couple of pics if I can find some time.
