Sneb,
Please turn of your "caps lock". :D
All you really need to do is to put the mic in front of the speaker and run your cables to the console and from the console to the recorder. All the other stuff is just extras. I cannot say what settings are needed as this is subjective opinion in the first place and I cannot hear what is happening. Best results are usually achieved using the minimum of equipment. Very little of this stuff (recording equipment) really makes anything sound "better" but rather just "different". In most cases less is more. Just try using the mic straight into the desk and then on to the recorder with minimal adjustments to the eq. If it sounds a little bright or dull, try a little hi end eq attenuation or boost. Same with the lows and the mids. 3 or 4 dB should be enough. If you have to adjust more than that the (in general) there is something else wrong. Try modifying the tone at the guitar amp or adjusting the microphone position. Use your ears, they are your most important tool. Keep us posted ... Kurt

Kurt is right. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).
Best rule of thumb (you've probably already heard it 1,000 times and will hear it more) is that you should get the best sound you can onto tape, disk, whatever.

Start with your sample.
What is its purpose in the track? As is, absolutely "raw", how does it sit in the mix? Tweak it out until it is as close to what you want as you can get it.

Still not good enough?

Now is when you put it through the amp. Choose your favorite mic. Put the track on a loop and work with the amp to fine tune the sound. Then work with the mic placement. Yeah I know, it's a pain running back and forth between the studio and control room, but you're the one who wanted to do this. :d:

It's hardest the first time, but you will get to know your system and room(s) better as you do it more often. Remember to have fun and experiment, experiment, experiment. Thomas Edison discovered 1,043 ways NOT to make a light bulb, but all his "errors" provided lots of new ideas.

thanks uncle bob for your ( kiss )......
anyway, the mutlitracker that i`m using is
( fostex dmt8 ) has the mixer/recorder built together,so i thought you where surpose to record flat. by the way i do my recording in a wee back room, so i`am limited to the big boys toys, so as i was saying about getting my guitar sound to my desk, the mike straight to the desk,no gagets,no running from one room to another, just push the record button and hit the chord, and stand back. But i still can get it into my head, about the controlled sound, with no noise, i.e. ( hum, hiss,or " taxi for mr.kurt foster.) ....... can someone get me out of here........................
