and what do you mean by mixing down to?

If I understand you correctly, you're going to route everything out of the DAW, to the mixer, and from the mixer to ???? back into PT???
I was asking about what hardware you had because then I(or others) would know about the quality of the AD/DA conversion, you have.
Since this is 001 I would recommend staying inside the DAW, mix internally.
If you are thinking about this to avoid the internal PTLE mix engine(skip the Bounce To Disk), then you could experiment with mixing thru the S/Pdif to DAT or Masterlink or whatever.
Anyway, to answer the original question, I also use 001 and I own and recomend Allen&Heath boards, but I use that for the micpre's and cuemix.
Hope this helps.

It's called MixWizard 14:4:2(the board I own).
It has 10 micpres+2 stereo/mono Ch.
It has 6 mono buses or 3 stereo buses.
The EQ section can be turned on/off with a switch.
The direct-out's are pre insert so you can use gates/comps/whatever with out printing them into the DAW or you can print by routing the signal out to the buses.
It has 6 aux sends,(no flipping buttons)actual sends.
And it sounds good. ;)
I find it more usable in recording situations than the 16:2, for many reasons. The 16:2 is more of a small live mixer and live monitor mixer. A&H

what sort of up do you have

????? I'm sorry but I dont know what "up", is.
If you're referring to the mixer, I plug the mic's into the preamps, use the direct-out's to hook up to the DAW and use the prefader sends on the mixer to feed to my Shure PSM600, headphone monitor. I can also use the postfader sends to send to a reverb unit and back to the headphone.
This mixer has, like I said, 6 sends which can all be configured pre/post fader with a button. 1-4 and 5-6.
