I've owned this pre for some time now and have used it on certain occasions. I assume it has a bit of competition now-a-days. I don't hear any noticable difference between it and my TC Helicon Voice Prism I may use once in while for vocal effects. I've posted a topic or two about preamps and found out that you can't skip or compromise in this area. I know it's time to give up using these less than desirable mic preamp's so I'm coming to you guys for a little assistance. What should I do with the tubessence...dump it, use it as a spare, or maybe make it a part of my recording chain?

What else do you have? It doesn't make any sense to "dump it" if you have nothing else to use in it's place. Besides, plenty of people find specific tasks that a "more budget friendly" pre excells at. Also, what are your goals with the recording? Your pre-- or mine for that matter-- might not serve anyone else's purposes or meet their criteria, but the question really is: does the pre works for you?

Well it's the first and only pre I've started out with. My intentions are to venture and explore a few other pre's to add to my arsenal. I'm a former saxophonist and have been itching at the notion of playing and recording for that matter, so I'd like to step it up a notch and collect a few more tools to compliment this complex task of building a decent recording chain.
