Hi all...can I use my Avalon U5 DI's with dynamic mics? I figure that they can work that way theoretically, but wondered if it's worthwhile to try it?

It's still need a mic and need's a pre-amp.....a DI won't work properly....

Hi...the reason would be that I've run out of pres when recording drums and supposedly, although I've never tried this, you can run a dynamic mic (sm57) straight into an input. I figured that rather than do that, I should use the U5's, not only for their sound quality, but also because I will be able to control the gain before the mics enter the converters. I don't really have th $$$ to spend on a new pre so i thought I'd at least give it a shot if it will work. will it?

Try it...see what happens...u never know....but considering the input inpedence of the U5 is 3 Mohm's and the output impedence of the sm57 is 320 ohm's it should be interesting to see the results. I'm guessing that your not going to get much out of it...
