I currently have an Aphex 107, and have swapped the tubes. I haven't had much time to play around with it, and will still do a lot more experimenting before I make any decision, but what are your opinions on the ART Pro MPA when compared to the Aphex? Differences, pros and cons, etc. I know some people on here have experience with either one or both.

I tried searching to get some more info on the ART, and found that the search engine wouldn't pull anything up. Even if I just typed in ART/ART Pro/ART Pro MPA. I know there are threads on it cause I've read some. Anyway, help would be appreciated!

I play a lot of acoustic music, so I'm thinking the ART may be better for that, but I already have the Aphex, so I don't think I'll be selling it. I have been thinking about just having both as you state, especially at the price I can get the ART. I can get both and probably spend as much as I did normally on an ART. That way I have that Hi-Fi sound if I need it for a project.

Another option would be to keep the Aphex and get an ART Pro-VLA II compressor. I've been reading some great reviews on them.

Any others?

Yeah...
I have the 107, and for acoustic music (especially guitars, strings, winds, etc) you should have a Grace m101 in your arsenal. Nothing beats it for pure transparency and detail. Keep the 107 for a bit of color on the vocals when you need that. Also, the m101 is set up with a selectable ribbon mode when you're ready to take the plunge with one of those mics. Really, really nice preamp, a real steal at the price.

It seems like a decent price, I'll do some more research on it. Any chance you know of some places where I can listen to sound clips of it in action? Hopefully while matched up against the same sound on another preamp?

Anyone else have opinions on the Grace M101? I may eventually need 2 of them for when I pull the trigger and start stereo micing some of my acoustic instruments. I might end up just spending the same amount as buying 2 of these and looking in the higher price range for some nice preamps. That'll come when I get there, for now, I'm weighing my options. I know there are some decent 2 channel pre's for 1k though.

Have to chip in to this one as I've responded to your other thread, and second Gaff's post. You're stuck debating decisions between prosumer pieces of gear; they are different shades of the same beige. Go with something vibrant. If you spend $300 on another item in your chain, you're just going to regret it. The grace is only $595 and I bet you can get it cheaper than that. The DAV BG1 is about $700. Spend the money on one good item, you won't regret it. These both represent incredible value. I really think you should avoid the Art, although I've only got experience with their guitar equipment.
