hello everybody!

I have a condenser at2020 mic and emu usb404 soundcard. to be able to plugin the mic, I added a XLR to TRS cable, cause the mic has only XLR output which is not suitable to emu mic input. But now I don't have any sound. The electricity goes, cause I can see the pic signal on mic input, also I'm pretty sure that it's not about soundcard, cause it works perfect with a bass or electro guitar plugged in the same input, on the other hand I tried the mic with a small marshall amphi with the same added XLR to TRS cable, and didn't hear any sound again. I also tried with headphones, started again and again carefully with sound card, like first plug the mic then open it etc. But no way. There is signal, but no sound. I don't think that there is a problem with my XLR to TRS cable cause it's just new and fitted perfectly to mic, as well as to sound card. So what else should be the problem? I would appreciate quick answer, hate my life already:)

thanks yeah it's written on mic's papers but I thought it wouldn't effect the phantom power. Well it's a problem cause I'm in a different country from the one I bought my equipment, don't have those sockets neighter. If you know a link that I can order for it, please send it. Thanks a lot.

I'm sorry that I am not understanding what you are saying. If English is not your first language, please make sure your RO profile shows the country where you are located.

You need a standard XLR(male) to XLR(female) microphone cable. These should be available almost anywhere throughout the world. The EMU USB 0404 has two combo inputs, and you can plug the microphone into either one of them, but if you want phantom power for a condenser microphone, you must use XLR cables and connectors.

sorry for misunderstanding. The mic has its own xlr to xlr. but emu's combo inputs are trs. This is why I get this xlr(mic output) to trs(emuinput) cable. So when I connect the mic with an extra cable xlr to trs, I loose the phantom power. What I was asking at this point, if is there any way (any other connectors) to have the phantom power and the sound going from emu at the same time.

Hai Zey..
In dem Manual steht, der XLR in ist für Mikro und der Klinkenstecker für Instrumente und line-level Signale.
Kann sein, daß da keine Speisespannung rauskommt und kein Mikro angesteckt werden kann.

Grüße aus Bayern !

Hello Zey
In the manual the XLR is desribed as mic in and the TRS as Hi-Z (instruments) and line-level input.
Well possible, that you can't connect any mics to the trs and the Phantompower is not available, either.

copied from manual:

1. Mic / Hi-Z / Line Inputs

These Neutrik combination jacks can be used either as balanced microphone
inputs, Hi-Z guitar pickup inputs or line level inputs.

XLR Connectors

- Use for dynamic or condenser microphones.
(1=gnd, 2=hot, 3=cold)

1/4 inch Jacks

- Center opening. Use for electric musical instruments
(i.e. guitar, bass, etc.), or line-level signals. The inputs are balanced, but you
can use either balanced (TRS = tip-ring sleeve) or unbalanced (TS= tip-sleeve)
cables for line-level signals (tip=hot, ring=cold, sleeve=gnd).
