Hey ya'll

I'm in the market for an amplifier that will be used with NS-10M as the primary speakers.

In my experience, a Crown amp of 1000 watts minimum sounds as good as anything for these particular speakers.

My question: Does anyone have any specific model suggestions for the amp - Crown has made a lot of differant models over the years - any favorites? Any that don't work as well?

Also - any other amp brand suggestions? I've heard Bryston amps with these speakers - they sound awesome.

Tell me what you like, tell me what you hate - Grind your ax - I'm all ears.

Thanks

I wouldn't even put more than 60 or 75 "Bryston" watts through them.

With 75 "real watts" you'll be burning the voicecoils of the NS10.

Are you sure that you will be using NS10's?
What about doing some recearch and find out how different speakers sound?

I wouldn't even think about putting a PA amplifier in my studio!! or in my apartment either!!

Find a Hifi/High End amplifier that has a lower output. They have much better detail.... and surpricingly sounds better also

I don't know about using NS-10s for your primary speakers. I use mine as second to my mackie HR824s and love them for that. If you use them as your primarys they won't give you a very accurate picture of your low end. I bought my NS10s just because yamaha announced their discontinuation as they could no longer get the wood pulp for the cones. I thought thats it I'm getting them. they're going to be a collectors item. They are classics on top of every SSL console, but I think people mistake them for primarys when their used more for "well how's this mix we've just done on our $100,000 URIs going to sound on everyones crappy stereo system. Then they may tweek from there. I like the mid range response though.

Actually ...

Since 3 out of 4 post has misunderstood this I'll try and clear it up:

I meant that the amp was to be used primarily with the NS-10s - I did not mean to indicate that the NS-10s were the primary speakers or that they were the only speakers - I have other speakers. I have better speakers. However the NS-10s are the only ones that are not self-powered - hence the need for an amp.

I know the Bryston amps sound outstanding - unfortunetly I've already traded my first-born for an LA-2A and both my legs for a pair of Neve modules - Since I need at least one arm to function I will probably have to pass on the Bryston (as it costs 2 arms) - so I was trying to research the Crowns as they only cost one arm, or sometimes just a hand.

(If I just angered a guild of armless engineers I apologize - please understand I am referring to myself functioning at normal operating speed and not the members of your guild, who, no doubt are extremely gifted at dialing in EQ's with their eyebrows)

And for the rest - I hope this clears things up some.

Sorry about this, but your opening posting stated that you where going to use them as primary speakers...

As i stated in my earlier post i will suggest finding a good hifi amplifier.
Try http://www.sugdenaudio.com they make great smplifiers... maybe even better that Bryston!(I didn't say that) -but hear for youself.

Best Regards and happy hunting,

If they actually belonged to me, you might! But I think my guitarist would be upset if I sold his NS-10's.
But I do want to keep 'em around for comparison. I've been mixing on the Yamaha's for a long time and I'm used to them.

BTW, Massive, I should thank you. It was you who turned me on to the Wharfedales in the first place.
