hello comrades, i have an adc question. my current converters are from my Tascam 1884. i like the board very much because of the fader control. For a time now ive been thinking of upgrading to an apogge ROSETTA for example, but i dont want to loose the faders. Can I use an alternate converter by bypassing the ad/dc of my Tascam, and still use the fader control of the 1884? is that possible? If it is, what kind of converter should I be looking for?(cause i now the rosetta won't work this way)?
If I should get rid of the Tascam, how may i use converters like the rosetta with mixing board capability? how would the connectivity work? what kind of mixer?
thanks a lot for taking your time,
bbto

OMG!!! You beat me to it!!!
Seriously though...Are you just trying to bypass the converters in your 1884 or are you trying to add additional?
I only ask because the converters in the 1884 aren't half bad! I used them on more than one session (before I got rid of the 1884 b/c I thought the faders sucked and turned out to be defective on like 5 units in a row!) and I had no issues with them.
If you're just trying to upgrade, consider a new mic or a new pre or something first. You'll get more noticable results faster that way.

ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. let see if i got this straight. I could add another converter to my setup, and still have my 1884 like ive always done. If on a traking session i would want to use the rossetta, i then have to route it through the rosetta, if i would want to use the tascams, i use the tascams, and still i dont have to sacrifice nothing.simply as that? is that right?
where i think partially my misunderstandment stands, is on the assumption of a double conversion, since i wana use my board(1884) and before that the rosetta for example.
SETUP:
SHURE MICS 57 , 58 , KSM 27, SAMPSON DRUM KIT MICS
TASCAM 1884
FOCUSRITE VOICE MASTER PRO
CUBASE SX3
POWERBOOK G4 1.67 2G RAM
ON YOUR OPINION: WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD UPGRADE ON THIS SETUP?
thanks for you time,

You wouldn't be double converting if you ran a pre into the Rose
You wouldn't be double converting if you ran a pre into the Rosetta and then patched the optical output of the rosetta into the Tascam.
IMO, your biggest improvement would come from the addition of a good mic (an all-rounder like the SoundElux U195 or the AT 4050) and a good pre (also an all-rounder like the Hardy M1 or Focusrite ISA 428 or a Grace 101/201.)
Good luck and keep us posted on your decisions.

The Rosetta has ADAT output so you could definitely run that into the 1884. I don't know if this is in any way a comprimise but I can't see how it would be.
