So after months of using the now outdated firepod (because now it's all fp10) i bought an fp10 in hopes of setting it up with the firepod to record 16 tracks at once but now when i go to pick which device i want to record with it can be either the firepod or the fp10 and i am wondering if there is a way where it just makes itself into one device or would i have to switch from the firepod to fp10 when i want to record with one not the other?

I'm using Cubase sx3 by the way and thanks!

Did you download the daisy chain software update from Presonus? I belive you have to do that and assign one unit as Master (or #1) and then add the second unit so that it sees it through the first. Not sure if Firepod will do this with FP 10 but it should. The two units get tied together via firewire and the master goes firewire to the DAW

It was only a name change, the hardware didn't change, so even if he said you can only chain a FP10 to an FP10, since the firepod IS an FP10, it should still work. I did a quick search and found some other people who have done it successfully (although they were posting about other issues they had!). I recall that when I had two firepods, getting them to work together at first was a PITA (you really did have to follow the instructions line by line in order and not mess around with the process), but once they were set up, I never had to touch them again.

If it would help, there is software to convert the firmware of a Firepod into an FP10. Jeremy Pleasant over at PreSonus sent it to me and it changed mine. I was having S/PDIF connection issues and updating the firmware corrected the problem.

Try contacting PreSonus support and see if they can help.

Too bad I did save that file.

That quote was from the VP of marketing (Rick Naqvi) at Presonus so there may be a workaround but it may not come easily from Presonus's staff. Maybe you should contact Jeremy Pleasant direct. I have two Firestudio Projects daisy chained i did follow the directions, DOH! it worked right away.

I have two Firepods daisy chained and I have had success with them. Let me give you a little bit of information..... See Win 8 and 8.1 got rid of the Legacy driver (What a dumb thing to do) and even Win 7 didn't have the right LEGACY drivers for firewire cards.

1) If you are planning on updating your Firepod firmware and you have a PC then make sure that you are using a WIN XP fresh install machine to do it (otherwise you risk bricking them).
2) Many people have complained about two Firepods not synching up right (or falling out while recording/playback) while in Win 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. There is a fix for this (I tested it last night and it works just fine).
The fix is this:
Get rid of the driver that came with your card. Although it will work and will synch. It will also fall out of synch and will make you want to throw it across the studio.
Download the LEGACY driver for you card off of Microsoft's Site.
*** Make sure that your Firewire chipset is compatible. A list is here: http://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/203654653/Approved_FireWire_Cards.pdf
Download the legacy driver FROM Microsoft (not a 3rd party).. Make sure that you are downloading the X86 or the x64 depending on your OS. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2970191
This link also has great directions as well.
After downloading right click on the .msi file that you just downloaded and click INSTALL
After it installs then go to the installation directory (It is either going to be in /Program Files or /Program Files (x64) and right click on the 1394.MSI file and INSTALL it
Then go to your Device Manager and right click on the current Firewire.
Select "Update Driver"
Then select Browse for driver
Then select "Select from a list"
Then pick the (LEGACY) driver and hit accept.

It will take a few minutes and then "Poof".. It is now a Legacy and will NOT drop out anymore.
