Oh yea he, he bought it at a flea market where there would be no record of a transaction and a difficult time locating and confirming with the seller, and the pawn shop turned him down because it's perfectly common for a pawn shop to turn down someone trying to quickly get rid of a large, expensive electronic product that he really has no clue about. That sounds like your friend isn't lying to you.

Smells like fish.

Hey guys!
Does this mixer have an external power supply that's about half the size of a shoebox? Is the board kinda small- about the size of a typical 16-channel PA mixer? When you cough or scream into a mic does the power supply pop it's circuit breaker? MINE DID!!!
Back in the mid- to later-80s, Trident came out with a mixer to compete with the Tascam stuff. This is pre-Mackie to you youngsters. It was supposed to be for home recording rigs with multi-track Otari's and Saturns at the time. It was a DOG!! No shit, it was a horrible board with no headroom, it constantly popped the p/s when you peaked it out. I hated the bitch. Apparently so did everyone else. It was the cause of Trident's demise. Buyer beware.

WTF did you expect?

"Dude, I got this free mixer, and I dont know anything, whattamIgonna do?"

AND its sounds really fishy, this story we're hearing about how you OR your buddies got it.

If I knew where you were I'd call the Police and see if someones missing a mixer.

THATS why you didnt get a straight answer.

Take a look at this Kshred: {old-link-removed}

This collection of people can walk you down the road to audio e.t.c.

But you gotta feed them. I have seen these talented people from diverse geography eat lunch with folks in the quest for an audio solution: {old-link-removed}

I have seen them collectively collapse one dudes gray matter with enough information, hell, more then any one book could give to a reader.

It's there, your answer. It's there, but you have to ask it. You ask yourself what it is >you< want to do. Then ask that question. Sit back and if they feel so inclined , all your worries can go away faster then you can say "honestly, I was just holding it!"

I think this is the console in question.

It's not "huge". It's about the size you would expect for a "standard" 16 channel mixer. Popular because of it's modular design, easy to work on. Kind of like an old car. Lot's of space. It's a nice board but for their age, you'll spend at least it's value in recapping and fixing the power supply as has been pointed out. Anyway, not worth $3000 unless it has never left it's box. They retailed for about 3g's brand new. That was 30 years ago.

kodyshred is kind of right to be a little put off. While I don't disagree with what anyone of you is saying, all of you said it very tactlessly. "You don't look ugly today.... er I mean, you look good today..."

In anycase kodyshred, you should heed these people words. If you were given a mixer FOR FREE and a pawn shop wouldn't take it, thats suspicious as hell.

I don't think anyone here means to put YOU down, but theft of this kind of gear is REALLY common, and you need to watch out.

Not having any experience with the Trident, I couldn't give a tonne of advice, however I think you probably, at the very least have a decent set of pre's (better than behringer at least!!) that you got for free. I wouldn't recommend going smaller, because you'll just end up going bigger later. I'd recommend just getting a multichannel sound card (w/o pre's on it) and feed its analog inputs with the Direct outs from the trident. That way, you can bypass any lack of headroom or poor summing on the master bus (although you still have to deal with the channels). In any case, it was free, as long as you feel comfortable owning it (as in, it isn't hot), milk it for what its worth (which is more than you paid!!).

Good luck and welcome! While I don't post a lot, I read this board a lot and there are some particularly wise people who post on this board, and I really advise sticking around!
