Hi,

I have a DAV BG1U and Neumann TLM102 which I'm getting along with greatly and relying on my Echo Layla 3G for the AD/DA. I believe my setup will be improved by an outboard ADC but I'm having a little trouble finding something suitable to match.

My original though was an RME ADI2 but I do have a little more in budget that I could play with. I considered the Benchmark ADC but I think it may be a little OT for my needs (inc price) and the Larvy AD10 interested me, but again probably OT and I kinda feel the emulation modes are a waste of money.

Anyone know of any other equipment worth checking out?

I'm looking for the simplest 2 channel equipment with no thrills but an underlying good quality (i.e. like my DAV preamp).

One thing that would be useful is some sort of direct monitor. Singing with headphones on with the signal going through the DAW the latency I get is just not right and I have not figured out a decent solution yet.

Thanks for any help.

Nice position to be in! There are quite a few A-D products in this sector of the market, and you have mentioned a selection of them. You don't actually give a budget, but I can see that you are not one to be spending money on features that you don't need.

The RME FireFace UCX at around £860 is well worth a look, as it has headphone monitoring as well as some expansion capability should you move on to needing that. I have several DAV BG1s, and if I'm not needing to record by feeding them into one of my Alesis HD24XRs, I have the option of digitising their outputs by using a direct conversion device such as the larger FireFace 800.

I've also had very good reports of the (German) Lake People ADC F444S converter, but I've not heard one and I don't have UK pricing information.

I have always been a big fan Of Ivor Drawmer's equipment. The analog stage is so important, and drawmer is one of the analog kings.

Use the xlrs on the dav to go to the adc, use the quarter inch unbalanced outputs to go to your monitoring system. Are you monitoring solely with headphones?

Kind of off topic, I am in love with their new compressors! and of course their flagship pre-amp da/ad

have fun shopping!

Lavry AD11 , not "AD10", althought that is very sweet too, ROCKS. I have one and love it. It is USB, AES EBU, plus great pre's
