Don't waste your good life
On Mona

There's no good reason to go there
You'll find out when she gets close
All too soon.

She'll bring you nothing but sorrow
And you'll start dreading tomorrow
Time is a thing you can't borrow

So cut her loose

Like staying out late on Sunday
And paying for it on Monday
Things just get lost in a vague haze ...
Quite an unpleasant surprise

Hey You

just look at them all
just look at them all
taking the long way home

Not I

I'm smarter than them
And it'll take years to get the way I am

Yes I'm smart
Smart, but lonely

And so I cry
On cold shoulders

If I'm so smart
Then why the hell do I still suffer?
Why the hell do I still try?

Tell me ...

For dreams go on forever
So live for today

And count all your blessings

You've got to
Treasure every day

Dreams are the one place
Where fantasy escapes

But don't bet your life on dreams
For they lead on forever

So live for today

Just count all your blessings
And treasure every day

Don't waste your time
Chasing after dreams
Cause you'll get too tired
To go on

For dreams lead on forever
So live for today

Count all your blessings

You've got to
You've got to

Not waste your good life on Mona
She's just a dream
You can't own her

It's such a risk when you follow
Your heart

She'll bring you nothing but sorrow
And you'll start dreading tomorrow
Time slips away as you follow
Your heart

Cool track. As always, great work. If I was critiquing it... I hear a bit too much compression. The drums and master bus comp (I suspect) are causing the master bus to breath and pump a bit too much. Are you using a multiband comp?

Are you done mixing this or can you tweak that?

What I'm doing is revisiting old works w/ new tools (and knowledge) I've acquired and finding it both a challenge and a thrill to dive into the projects.

It's a challenge because the way my rig is now set up is not the way my rig was set up, so I have to crack open the hood on every project and rebuild it from the ground up.

The thrill is that I can just address the mix only - rather than having to put the music together, so I am not distracted by having to build the arrangements. I can focus on just the mixing.

Accordingly, all suggestions are good suggestions, and I will still fix what's off. I do know what you heard, and I'm not hitting the drum master bus hard - so it does have to be the compression plugs on the two buss triggering the pumping.

Thanks bud!

I replaced the link above w/ the new mix. The problem w/ the pumping was the kick.

The referenced media source is missing and needs to be re-embedded.

Your tracks are always interesting. Would you ever consider uploading mixes, tracks or stems for mixing and mastering projects here? That would be fun.

Oddly, when this piece was originally assembled, the bass player hailed from the Rochester NY area. His wife had unexpectedly passed. He's since remarried and now lives about 45 minutes north of me after visiting my Maine home and deciding to settle in the area.

The rest of everything is just me.

But that's how much change has occurred since I first worked on this.

I'd have absolutely zero problems working online w/ folks. That's what started my participation in these groups now so many years ago.

You were right!

You also happened to align w/ the bass player's opinion. He thought he was too dominant in certain sections. I mean, when the friggin' bass player says "Too much ME", you KNOW the mix has "issues". The two correlated.

The problem?

I had him up in the levels because I'd mixed the kick hot. I either love fat bottom frequencies or I don't hear them all that well after a day of mixing. I actually brought the kick DOWN 12 db. That's what was driving the compression to go WTF?

I could then bring his levels down while retaining clarity.

Hey - I missed it. It happens.

You guys did not.

Thank you!

Same for me. You have been here since the beginning. That's awesome :)

I started recording.org to finally do all we can do online today. Its been quite the journey going from a musician to building this community.

I've added (what I hope is easy way for members) to upload tracks and name them. Paul is starting to do this now.

If you do too!  I think that would be awesome. (The more we do it, the better I will get at coding it all too)

Here is an example of Paul's upload tracks and how the tracks can be laid out and organized:  https://recording.o…
