I'm on earbuds right now but I do agree that high frequencies are a bit aggressive and the energy in the mids are kind of lost. I'd like to have more presence on the electric/disto sound.
I will listen to it in my studio tonight and let you know if I detect something else or if I'm just lied to by the earbuds.. ;)

The performances were all done by me..... I’d have to look at the stems but if I remember correctly....
Drums: glyn John’s three mic technique one track
Bass: direct to board one track
El guitar dirty : close mic silverface champ rhythm and lead tracks
El guitar clean: close mic silverface champ with tremolo
Ac guitar: condenser on the neck sm57 in the bridge two tracks

Really nice work. I agree with the others comments. It’s a bit bright but that is so easy to rectify.

I'm in studio now.. another thing I hear is that the way you panned and leveled the mono overheads isn't very natural. Usually we would keep the levels and panning so the snare is still in the middle. Or maybe your overhead mics weren't at the same distance from the snare ??

I’ve opened up the song again, removed all the plugins and deleted all the duplicated tracks.... back to bare bones... going to completely remix.... I’ve learned alot since I originally mixed this one. I will repost when done with all your comments as priority.. any suggestion for a comparison track for this? And I HAVE to try the high strung acoustic setup (thanks Kurt Foster)...I just ordered a twelve string set to do this.

you should be able to get what you're looking for without a lot of added high eq. less eq = less phase issues i/e sounds better! (y)

I think the mono mix exposes the EQ in the reverbs as the culprit for the standing wave sort of wash I'm hearing. The echoes on the guitars are really strong and I feel you have to take those energies into your analysis in searching for the clarity while maintaining the 'effect' you're going for.
The acoustic can be had easily. Since you are recording with two mics I would seriously check the phase. I see you changed this for the mono mix but I'm not sure it did what was needed. I can only assume that in the original post the stereo one, that you were splitting the acoustic mics in their pan. This can work but not with your mic choices. Thats just an opinion but the 57 has such a distinctive EQ to it's voice that it sometimes doesn't play well with others especially on an acoustic instruments. A wide pan for this also sort of disinherits one part of the sound of the instrument from the other and you create a lack of cohesion in that track. The acoustic actually has more cohesion to it in the mono mix for this very reason. If it were mine, I would get the blend of the two mics exactly where I wanted for that track and then make it a mono track and dup it and then use panorama to spread it. OR...simply tighten it up and keep it front and center as your driving force behind all the gymnastics of the electrics. Center the acoustic with the bass and the drums.Mix it as a trio supporting.
