Well, I just got an email notification that my copy of Cubase SX has shipped, and is due to arrive on Wednesday! :D
Amazing! I am pretty excited (I pre-ordered it right after it was announced), but am thinking that I need to build a new computer to run it...
I am going to keep my Cubase 5.1 running on my current PIII 1GHz box, and then hooking the 2 systems together eventually using VST System Link. So is the current state of the ANUS computer still the same? This is going to be tricky, since I have everything loaded on the PIII right now, including all my plugins (Waves is the hard one to switch...), VSTi's, etc.
I am pretty sure that I will need Cubase/VST 5.2 to run the VST System Link, plus some form of hardware and cabling to hook the 2 together...I haven't really thought this through enough yet to figure out how I am going to do this...
1) I need to build a new box (ANUS II)
2) I need to get Cubase 5.2, plus the necessary hardware to get the VST System Link to run
Otherwise...
I will have to install Cubase SX on the old PIII 1GHz, and wait for the System Link to be implemented.
Any comments...suggestions...good drugs?

Put the damn UA card wherever the hell you feel like it bub! lol

It don't matter...if you want to use it on your main system that would be a wiser choice as using the VST system link to send signals will cause more of a delay than you would want it to.
SX is fully compatible with the 428..I guess you didn't pay attention to the screen shots for SX...look at them again and you'll see the 428 listed in the mixer settings!! Yeehaw!
I have heard from some reliable sources that the 428 will work with the USB dongle..
Yes. VST system link will be an add on to Cubase 5 and lower.
Good drugs? Hmmm...that's easy..it's awfully frightful outside

Yeah, I think you are right Gary, I'll put the UAD-1 card in the same box as SX...
Thanks for the tip on the 428...I am thrilled. I have really come to depend on it with VST.
I am planning to install SX in the "old" computer at first until I get all the System Link stuff worked out. Then I guess it will be onto building my own ANUS computer...
I found out from the Steinberg site that Cubase VST and Cubase SX can co-exist quite nicely on the same computer, so that is good news.
More details as they develop.

I was just on the Steiny Site, and on the main page they have now announced that SX is "out"! I guess it is "official" now!!!
They have also backed *way* down on their minimum system requirements...they now say the *minimum* requirements are a PIII 500MHz w/ 256MB, and *recommended* is a PIII 1GHz w/ 512MB. Much better than the dual PIII 1GHz on their first announcement!
Supposedly they will have VST System Link in the first release, but we will have to wait for Cubase/VST 5.2 to get the System Link for the old software. Hmmm...this poses a problem for me as I mentioned before, since all my plugs/VSTi's are on the old computer, and some plugs are hard to move (the Waves plugs especially). I guess I am going to install SX on my old computer, then wait for the VST System Link to be instituted on the old VST before putting SX on its own computer. Then I should be able to tie the 2 together, and keep the Waves plugs on the old computer.
Some questions to put out to the group:
1) I am using the UA/Mackie UAD-1 card...I am assuming this will work with SX...it is just a VST plug-in, right? So where would be the best place to put this...in the old computer via System Link, or should I put it in the new computer with SX??? (I hate to uninstall/re-install *anything*...it takes forever to get it set back up correctly.)
2) I am using the TASCAM US-428 as a control surface for VST/32...I wonder if anyone has heard if support for it is included with SX??? Also, since SX has a copy-protect dongle on the USB port, I wonder how this is going to effect hooking up the 428 (USB-based also)???
3) Until I get the VST System Link up and running, can both Cubase/VST and Cubase SX exist on the same computer???
Thanks! We are entering an exciting time...competition is driving the market right now...Cubase SX...Sonar 2...Logic 5...ahhh, life is sweet!
