What the f@*k? Oh my God I'm laughing out loud at your selections.

Just kidding, dude. ;)

However, you may want to spend some time figuring out exactly what you want to be able to do, figuring out if these things are realistic, and then coming back here to get help selecting the right gear for your purposes. Your selections look pretty random and hurried, and I think if you just bought the crap on that list blindly, it would be a big mistake.

No you DON'T "just need to get studio equipment"... you need to pick a direction and determine how much money you have now... and over the course of say, the next 6-12 months...

Why would you just buy stuff to buy it? Buy it to use it for the need you have.

U can't do that until you know what you want to do.

I say 'HEY...make the retailers happy and buy it all!!!'

Since you're only 13 and a NooB, like you said, perhaps you need to listen to what the folks on here , some who have grandchildren about your age, are trying to tell you.

Before you go assembling a bunch of gear without ANY idea what the gear does or how it all works as a unit together, you should sit down and figure out what you'll be doing with the gear, how much learning curve is going to be associated with this gear, and whether your choices will allow you to do what you want with it. Its kinda like going to school.

And getting an attitude about the responses will only show your age and lack of poise. You want help? Then figure out what you're doing first and then ask accordingly.

Seriously, don't get your back up. People are willing to help. (I joined my first band when I was 13 and a lot of older people help....we're talking 1970 here.) Here's some things that might be relevant.

1. What kind of music are you interested in recording?
2. Is this a solo project or are you working with a group?
3. What kind of instruments do you play. (Include other members of the group if applicable.)
4. What kind of musical instruments do you have available?
5. What kind of computer do you have available? This probably should be a computer that others in your family don't depend on for school or work.

The basic thing is that there is no one size fits all starter pack that every noob should own. We aren't trying to make fun of the gear. It's just not at all obvious how it goes together as a package.

mate, for a start u can get a keyboard much cheaper than that with only like 2 octaves on it for a start (unless ure playing bach u dont need that kind of equipment) I dont get why ure looking at getting such a big mixer and the recorder u should think about getting just a smaller mixer and a macbook then get a cracked version of logic from somewhere. Mic-Mixer-Mac-Logic-ure wildest dreams.
Sorry if im offending any extremeist cubase users here.

Please don't encourage the use of crack. There's a few of us here that pay for our software. I would like to believe it is the majority.

I only speak for myself but it pisses me off to see someone who is taking advantage the availability of these stolen softwares. I don't care what you do in your own privacy. Just don't talk about it and don't encourage it. Those of us who are legitimate would rather encourage the legitimate use of software.

And, yes I am a Cubase user but your use of Logic doesn't bother me at all. In fact I'm glad that there are different ways to work. Stolen software though, that really burns me. I don't think I'm alone in this.

This is not an area that I know a lot about, but my reaction is that you need (1) a computer (2) an interface with a mic preamp and input for midi (3) software that will play samples and loops and record vocals (4) a mic (Shure SM58 is a good inexpensive mic). I don't really know enough about software in this area to make recommendations.

Are there any Mac guys out there? Does it make sense for someone in his situation to start out with something like Garage Band and move up later?

anonymous Tue, 02/13/2007 - 05:49

I take huseph and big d's points on board, soz i half said that to get peeps opinions on the subject as im new to the forum but von rock that was just harsh!
Also i never said that i myself have a cracked version of logic as i do not, my version is completely logit as is all my software (plugins and all) so infact i am not a thief, what i am is a poverty stricken student as i suspect our wapper friend here is and thought he might prefer the easier option as he already seems to like taking short cuts in his work i.e. he really is rushing into his purchases.

A Mac guy here: yea, keep it simple:

1) macbook (w/ free GarageBand software)
2) MAudio Fast Track
3) MAudio Keystation 49e (USB keyboard)

...this package is way easier, more flexible, & portable. Add some stands, and cables and such and you're set. BTW, go on the Apple website and look for the educational discount - you'll get a better deal on the machine :)

When i was 14 AOL was running rampant. there were these programs where you could "assualt" other 'aolers', kick them off line, freeze their computers, it was mayhem for a dorky 14 year old. I found a cracked version of cubase while searching out these programs. The next thing I know I was making RAP beats with only my mouse. Since then ive bought protools twice! Maybe a cracked version is a good idea for a young Chuck D wanna-be to figure that he wants to do something better. Better yet maybe WTFOMG should rob JETJAG next time he leaves the house and go to guitar center and buy a lagit version of cubase with the proceeds.

heres what you do kid, ready? email me and ill tell you everything you need, minus the trash talk from some older guys willing to take shots at someone that might have resembled themselves at 13 years of age. Be ashamed of yourselves, you might have just turned some kid off to something totally rad.
RAP's the final glam rock, thats rite, take your shots.
