Friends,

I have a stereo guitar cabinet with a 2 X 12 speakers driven by a stereo tube amp. I am thinking of stereo Micing using a pair of SM57 - one on each speaker.

Will I still experience phase cancellation because of using two mics, even though I am pointing each mic at each of the speakers. I use a Focusrite mic preamp and it has a phase inverter (or something like that) which reverses the phase.

Please let me know your thougths,

thanks

There is no real advantage to try and Mike a cabinet in stereo the way you have described here. May I suggest you have one that is tight on the cabinet and one that is a few feet away from the cabinet? You will need to adjust both levels and the time discrepancy between the 2, by zooming in, in your audio software program and slide/delay the close-up microphone to better time align the close versus far microphone better. This should provide you with a better stereo effect because having 2 microphones that are the same distance from both speakers will yield a primarily mono recording.

Delayed but still here

merely a suggestion... give it a try if ya want....

why not try the 'black album' technique, as in one 57 dead straight on the cone, and one of axis next to it on the same speaker, they will of course need phase allignment though,

or just wack a 57 an inch from the grill cloth, man inch away from the centre of the cone and double track it, instant bigness.
