Suggestions for a FOH vocal preamp

Can you expand on that please? Why do you recommend a vocal effects processor as a suitable preamp? I mean, it doesn't have xlr inputs and I believe the inputs are line...

Suggestions for a FOH vocal preamp

I've decided to start upgrading my touring rack a little bit and one of the things I'd like to add is a decent vocal preamp. I know people say you don't really need it, but it's an option I'd like to have. What I would really like is it to be flexible. This means a decent EQ section, a...

The origins of the master- A question for the theorists

I know of a couple of studios that have a long list of vintage gear, that always seems to be out in "repair"... Definitely look out for those.

The origins of the master- A question for the theorists

I guess some things to keep in mind are: 1) Mastering is not primarily done to make tracks louder. Making tracks "louder" is more or less a by-product of the "loudness wars", though one could argue it dates back to mastering on tape when the signal needed to be as far away as possible from...

    Panning Issues

This is where I believe the problem is. If you have all your pan pots centered the left and right output of the 192 are coming in centrally. Pan the left channel 'left' and right channel 'right' on the board. Also make sure your settings in PT under 'Hardware Setup' are patched correctly...

Twelve Samples Of Mics On Kik

I really don't want to have to start a new thread.... :D

    "amateur" recording software

That depends on your interface, or in her case, maybe just the soundcard on the computer. If it's a regular one, you might want to look into buying a usb interface, so you can plug in a balanced mic input. These are very cheap, so it would be worth investing.

Twelve Samples Of Mics On Kik

Ok, I'll try not to start with a new thread on this.. but i just "discovered" a new kick mic. (maybe it's been around for a while, but I don't hear people talking about it much) It's the Dual Element kick mic by Audio Technica. Anyone try this one? Logic tells me it should be a sure-thing...

    "amateur" recording software

I practiced alot on (at the time) Sonic Foundry's Vegas. I believe it was version 1.0. (now Sony Vegas) Stupidly simple, but lots of room to "broaden your horizons". It used to be very multitrack friendly, but since Sony took over, it seems tey're putting more emphasis on the "video" part of...

    hey gdoubleyou autotune

Yup that's the article i was talking about! Thanks! I played around with the vocals and realised that the vocoder effect could work, but not with the Korg -- the results just weren't clear enough. So instead, I used a Digitech Talker... You plug your mic straight into it, and it gives you a...

    hey gdoubleyou autotune

You can get an effect LIKE Cher, but as a matter of fact, alot of time and effort was spent fine tuning each syllable and pitch change on her vocal line. The end result was anything but automated. I can try to dig up the interview if you'd really like to read it. Cheers!

Easiest way to monitor more tracks LIVE than I can record?

Nope. In fact it was this one (sorry, couldn't find a larger picture) Don't know if it's still in production, but the lack of decent photographic evidence seems to suggest it wasn't as popular as it's larger 24 channel version.

Easiest way to monitor more tracks LIVE than I can record?

Here would be the "proper" way of doing, in other words, probably the most common way. You have a multichannel board. (let's say 12 or more tracks) Channels 1-8 would be your drum kit, 9 bass and 10 guitar. 11-12 would be your DAW output. You now have 2 ways to record the drums. Either by...

Help me please! M Audio delta 1010LT problem

We've had problems with our DELTA 1010 rack, where it simply wouldn't turn on. This happened twice so far, overnight, with no mucking about. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an internal connection problem. (bad connections, solders, whatnot). After getting it replaced, it was hell on earth...

Need advice on a reverb for live sound!

Hey guys! I will make this short and sweet. I have a budget of around $300 for a reverb. I'm looking at anything new or used. It would be used on mid-sized venues (300-500 peeps) in conjunction with the provided house gear. I like to buy all of my gear with a high quality:value:endurance...

plugin differences: waves ssl, api, sonalksis and urs

I would go for the SSL. It's my personal taste that prefers that sound. Also because I use all three plugins endlessly, as opposed to just the compressor in the API series. (I just don't like the EQs for some reason) Also don't see where all the money goes in the URS package. Granted, they are...

    Cubase/Nuendo vs. Pro Tools

I tried cubase a couple of times. I honestly did... I really wanted to give it a chance. But it never worked out. :( Pro Tools on the other hand, I understood immediately and found to be very "logical" and intuitive. What it boils down to, is how you are used to working and personal...

    Broadcasting equipment...

The engineer is a consultant who sets up radio stations for broadcast. He has an extremely long list of references for the past 40 years, from both Canada and the US. After discussing this with him, his argument was that with a radio station where there are alot of DJ's, the 421 will force...

    Broadcasting equipment...

So I need suggestions for some broadcasting gear for our college radio station. We are soon going to AM and will be upgrading our equipment. We just bought a Radiosystems RS12 broadcast board. We have a UREI compressor on the output and a basic EQ. We need to get new mics, as well upgrade...
