I use a Shure KSM 27 and I love that mic. Where the NT1-a sounds strangley mid-rangey on male vocals, the KSM27 sounds clean and crisp. $300 for a new one. I use a pair of NT1-a's as drum overheads from time to time and they sound great for that application. They make drums sound HUGE.
