    mix critique Lockdown Blues

Thanks for the comments! It's actually a track from my fourth solo album which I'm busy with at the moment. The drummer, Larry Rose has played on my last three solo albums and the keyboard/ bass player, Dave Sharp is a good friend of mine who has played on all of my albums. Cheers.

Thanks for the comments! Actually the fine tuner is a Gibson model. They're quite hard to find these days but they work so well. Should be fitted as standard. Cheers Peter.

They really are quality instruments. I got the Goldtop and ended up getting the Flametop as well.

Thanks for your comments. I hear what you're saying. I can tell you that the mics weren't that close though. I f you get too close the wind from the spinning horn affects the mics. The "lurching" that you describe gets more pronounced as the organ tone gets more dirty when being driven. Thanks...

I recorded this quite recently in my studio. Guitars were played into the Kemper Profiler DI. The Hammond C3 and Leslie was fed into a power attenuator in order to drop the volume and enable the organ to be cranked for some grind. We miced the Leslie with two Shure SM98 mini condensor mics...

mix critique Life is a Lady/Holiday - Santana - My Studio Session

We recorded this song about four weeks ago. I used my Kemper rack for the guitars and was pleasantly surprised when I was able to use it literally the same way I use an amp (by backing off in places and then turning up to get more gain) The Kemper responded just like an amp! This Santana song...

Big Moving Parts - My first "lockdown" production

This has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things that I’ve done musically (for myself) during this lockdown period. Larry (drummer) and I had a lot of fun recording this. The track forms part of my next solo album which I’m busy with at the moment. It was quite tricky doing all the...

Live in the studio performance via streaming

Due to the fact that we cannot perform live at the moment we decided to do a live stream from my studio. We performed our CCR Tribute show and I also recorded the live tracks in the DAW. Guitar was played direct via the Kemper and the Bass was played via the Line 6 Helix. We setup four cameras...

Kemper Profiler on loan - I put this little track together

Thanks Stevie, I've since bought a Kemper and have made my own profiles of my rig (pedals and amp). I was blown away when I compared the captured profile to the real thing. I was so impressed that I made two short clips to demonstrate just how close this gets in feel and tone. The actual amp...

Kemper Profiler on loan - I put this little track together

I was given the Kemper Profiler on load for a few weeks to try out in my studio. Wow! It was outstanding. We were busy with a recording session at the time and I was so impressed that I decided to use it exclusively in the session. It turned out looking like a Kemper demo but I think that you'll...

    Check on Electric Guitars

Guitars sound excellent. Really good tone. Don't do another thing to them!

Looking for a low end check please

I've listened to it in my studio a few times now and I have to agree with the sentiment. I think that the bottom end is overpowering your mix, Donny. It's also sucking out the clarity on the other instruments and voices. I would tame the bass and you should hear the other tracks come alive. I'm...

mix critique My tribute to The Alan Parsons Project

Yes, I agree with your comments, Paul. Believe me it's not like I choose to use these mics over other more expensive makes. It all comes down to what one can afford. I've made them work for me. It's the same with preamps. Of course I'd love some nice expensive tube pres but I've had to make do...

Wow! Thank you, Paul and Donny! Paul thanks for your comments and your support. It's much appreciated. @ Donny, thanks for your wonderful comments. Coming from you it's a serious compliment. As you, I'm a massive APP fan and the Al Stewart album you mention is also one of my favourites. Alan...

mix critique My tribute to The Alan Parsons Project

Hi everyone, I’d like to share my track with you. It’s my tribute to The Alan Parsons Project. I’m a huge fan of his and have tried to emulate his writing and production style in my work. I recorded this in my studio which is basically my converted garages on my house. The drums were recorded...
