Hi my friends,
I've put up a new video which I think may benifit RO members.
Let me know what you think of the sound and the production in general. (Trying to get better!) ;)
Don't miss the electric distorted guitar on which mic placement has the biggest impact.
Tomorrow, I'm recording someone playing acoustic guitar, and I may not have access to a mic stand. Can I just hold the mic? I know my hand will get tired, but it's a really simple part for a four minute song that I need to record. Btw I'm using a Rode NT2-a tomorrow (not mine, I'm borrowing it).
Been experimenting with using two mics on my acoustic - an SM57 (dynamic), and a single RODE M5 (a condenser). I generally blend these (with the 57 doing most of the work) but the RODE still contributing.
The 57 is generally up pretty close -anywhere from 8 to 12 inches, and the Rode is about...
I'm new into recording stuff and for now I'm trying to record an acoustic guitar, though I find it hard to find the best placement of the microphone on it. I'm a using a condenser mic (Audio Technica AT2020). I saw Acoustic Sessions/Cover videos of artists on youtube that has some...
I am planning on recording a school orchestra recital and need some help deciding on a microphone setup. I've done live sound for decades, but have done practically nothing relating to orchestral recordings. I also have a limited selection of microphones to choose from. The end result will be...
I have a cocktail drum kit, with a tall, 15" barrel drum that stands upright and serves both as the kick and the floor tom. It has small air holes, but no mic port. The kit sounds great, and I can get a solid one-mic recording from it without problems. But I need to do some multi-mic setups, and...
It fun to have an audio reference to what a technic can sound like before you start testing it. ;)
I found this today. Thought I'd share.
Even if it's for guitars, the techniques still apply for other instruments
I work for a church, we're not recording but it does have to go into the board and sound good for services.
My boss got 2- Crown PCC 160 Supercardioid Condenser Boundary Mics and wants them installed in our grand piano. The catch is he doesn't want them under the lid b/c cables were getting...
Hi all-newbie here with a question. My daughter's HS marching band also performs orchestral music (upper college and sometimes professional level pieces) at a local church sanctuary which is huge-seats about 3000. Next month the chorus will be doing the show along with the band. So I'm looking...
I was using this mic in a classroom. No carpet. Mic was about 4.5 feet from the bell of the trumpet.
ADK Vienna Edition Cardioid True Condenser Microphone
It was recorded on a macbook/DP6/Apogee Duet. I used a small amount of EQ and added a little bit (5%) reverb from the ProVerb on DP6...
ok guys i have yet another question about john mayer
ok i just want to now if anyone could possibly tell me what type of mic he may be using for his guitar in this..
i mean u dont have to say the name of the mic..(unless you want to )u can just tell me whether you think it responds well to...
If I have a 4x12 guitar cab in a small very dead vocal-booth type room, I know I will need the standard sm57 on the sweet-spot of the cab speaker, but would putting a condenser at a farther distance and getting the phase right make any difference to the sound?
I seem to get the best recorded saxophone sound by placing the microphone in line with the bell about a foot or two away. The lowest note on the saxophone always overloads the mic, however. I can help alleviate the problem by riding the fader, but I'd rather not. If I move the mic to the...
I am not very experienced with recording techniques - I am a composer and bassist, but have a new gig writing tracks for radio beds. I want to record an acoustic guitar part, but could use some tips on mic placement.
I don't have fantastic equipment, but I think they are decent...
My Band (electric guitar, electric bass, Keys, accoustic drums) Began recording our sessions. We plan on getting a legit album recorded in 6 mo to a year. In the meantime we would like to hear back our bi-weekly sessions for practice purposes only. We already own a sony mindisc portable...
Seriously, I've seen countless articles on proper drum micing and different techniques, but I feel room mic placement just gets a brief mention most of the time.
I'm lost. I have yet to record a decent room mic track. Most of the time it has an ugly sound (like a gated reverb) or full of...
I'm going to record some jazz stuff(hard bop, ala Horace Silver and Bill Evans).
I have Old German Baby Grand Piano(in good condition).
Bass player with 3/4 size double bass(standard)
Drummer with 4 piece kit and 4 trad. jazz cymbals (ride, crash, hihats and...
