another pipeorgan recording!!

HI!

Now i have done a recording in the same church in lulea, but
with 7,5m(24,6 feet) high stands, and space between the microphones
is 60 cm(1,9 feet). What's is your opinion..Is the stereo image to tight
or how should a explain..?
Can i have much more space between the microphones,
and how much?

The microphones i use is Gefells 296 omni.

This is nice. I would not strive to space the mics any further.

The spacing of mics is only required to repreduce the cues into two loudspeakers. 2ms or so time delay between the left and right mics is all that is required to make a sound source appear to come completely from the left or right loudspeaker.

2ms corresponds to a spacing of about 686mm. So any more than this will not give a bigger image, it will exacerbate the hole in the middle and lower the comb filtering interferance frequencies to even more annoying areas.

If you have only two mics, going beyond 680mm or so does not make any sense and your stereo image will degrade.

If you do the math on this, you'll see that this is about spot on. Wider spacings only really work when you have a 3rd mic in the center (such as a Decca Tree or the original 3-point omni.) It also works quite well when using such as an XY or Blum in the center and then use the omnis as flanks.

fairly exact : 10-12 m :lol:
