Audio Interface and A/D D/A Convterter Question....

There is a question I have been wanting to ask for the last few days, since i've been thinking about all the things I will have to buy to rebuild my studio.
What (if any) difference is there between an audio interface such as a MOTU 2408 MkIII and a A/D D/A Converter such as an Apogee Rosetta 800? I was wondering if you I could use a A/D D/A Converter (i.e. Apogee Rosetta 800)as an audio interface just like a MOTU 24808 as well as an A/D D/A Converter.
Pretty much the question is does an A/D D/A Converter such as an Apogee Rosetta or a Lynx Aurora act as an Audio Interface as well as a A/D D/A Convterter?

Hi
The Aurora can be attached to your computer using their already established audio interface card (the AES16). You can buy a Firewire card for the Apogee and connectect it to your computer's Firewire port so you won't need a dedicated audio interface.

The Rosetta has higher quality conversion than the MOTU. I haven't heard the Lynx, but by all accounts it is excellent.
