CRT to TFT or LCD monitor

I'm tired of turning off the monitor everytime I want to record electric guitar.
Would of of those flat monitors help with that. I'm trying to convince my wifre that I need it.

My laptop has an LCD. Problems pertaining to CRT monitors and humming disappeared INSTANTLY!

It's pretty hard to get used to though, especially for sensitive eyes. (I'm talking about staring at it for like 6-7 hours a day. Yes, I'm a geek )

Either that or getting reversed coil pick ups...
Bartolini pick-ups are done this way and are considered very nice!

Probably cheaper to get the monitor.
I do need to consider a guitar overhaul though...

Go get the panel, man! It is for a good cause. Also helps the economy and now is not the time to be sitting on your money. Plus, there is this big new tax break coming. Check the http://www.dell.com or the http://www.costco.com website (latter one needs membership) for some pretty good deals.

I got two (!) 15" Planar brand panels from Dell for my DAW to get rid of the hum in my stratocaster. The noise is not quite perfectly gone but its a LOT (and I mean a lot) better. When playing in the right angle it is now no longer a problem.

More noise would come from the think tank box itself than from the LCD monitor.

Gee, good question. Gotta try it out. I usually record without watching the screen - need my eyes on the frets ... just kiddin'.

I guess I never came across the problem of the monitor with the guitar issue!!

I always like to stand up and groove and that makes me have to stand pretty far away on my movements! I'm the "King" when I play! lol

Shaking those hips and banging my head! (now there's a site to see I tell you! HA HA HA HA!)

On both my Strat and my Gibson Spotlight I never had a problem....

CRT monitors too! Two of em!

Actually I'm jealous.
My pickups are shite.
The guitar is a strat copy, one of those dimarzio kits from the mid eighties.
I should get professional help... for the guitar that is.

I had hum from both A Gibson Les Paul & a Strat. I got rid of them, now using a PRS. Same monitor but no hum ! Some say the PRS is a combination of the Strat & Les Paul. It does have a feel of it's own.

Yeah... PRS has a feel of it's own.. It somehow feels... expensive. =0~~

It is true, the wiring and shielding inside the guitar make a real difference. Nothing though, that can't be fixed in even a cheap guitar. Not as easily done as getting low radiation panels, though. Nevertheless, it is cheaper.

I'm not an expert on guitar wiring, but I know that friends of mine clad the inside of the cutout for the electronics in the guitar body with aluminum foil that they connected to ground. Helps a lot, but if not done well you are creating a fine antenna ... enabling you to play along with local FM radio stations without any other equipment ... how cool is that .

In any case, I would look up "pickup shielding" on the web or something like that.

You might want to try the aluminum foil then. But please investigate this topic on the web first. My information is second-hand and somewhat outdated. I personally would also appreciate if you posted here again once you have found a good solution.

There's a paper foil in most guitar pick up housings to help prevent some of these issues...

It's been a while since I openend up any pick up housings myself...

Indeed, even with the tax cuts it's hard to be able to afford all the toys we want!

Hell, I got a great tax return this year plus won $600.00 at vegas on Black Jack so I got to get a ton of new toys! Yes, I'll rub it in some more! lol!

One of these days I'm going to get a new desk and get one of those $2,500.00 Sony 23" flat panel monitors! They're just like the Apple Cinema displays! Imagine two of those side by side! Or heck, even three of them with the Matrox Perhelia card! DROOOOOOOOL!
