Good Prices on HDs

If anyone is interested...

CompUSA (I know...I know...) is having a big sale this week (10/14 - 10/21/2001) on Western Digital 40 GB 7200 RPM drives. (I am assuming that the prices are the same nation-wide).

List Price: $129
Instant Rebate <$20>

Out of pocket = $109

*Then* there is a $50 mail-in rebate (I hate mail-ins)...

This brings the net price to $59 for a Western digital 40 GB 7200 RPM drive...not bad! This is a little over a buck a gig...I remember when HDs came *down* to a buck a *MB*...we were thrilled and couldn't imagine things getting any better...hehe...and it wasn't *that* long ago!

IDE? ATA? SCSI? what type of drives are we talkin' here?

FWIW, I've gone through two Western Digital drives prior to switching to Seagate. The WD's repeatedly failed. My Seagates take a lickin' and keep on spinnin'... :D

I prefer
1) IBM scsi drives (can't beat scsi 160, 10,000 rpm an' hotter than a stripper on your lap!) :D
2) Seagate

The price of everything is very low right now.
I got a 200 watt ATX power supply for a whooopin' $5!! at tigerdirect.com - who knows how long it'll last, but the shipping was more than the price!

I've always had great results from WD drives...quiet and reliable here...as far as proces go..I bought a 20GB and a 40GB with shipping for 190 buckaroos....god I love pricewatch!!!!

I have also always had good luck with Western Digital.

FYI, they are ATA drives that I have running on my new ATA/100 card. :)

At $59 US, I had a tough time passing them up. I had originally planned to go SCSI/160 as llorkcor2 always exorts, but when I saw the price...sheesh! I could pass up the deal, and had to buy two!!! That is *two* 7,200 WD 40 GB ATA drives for $118 US. I looked on Pricewatch.com this morning, and the cheapest WD/40 I could find was $80/ea. plus shipping. I saved $21 *each* over Pricewatch!!! :D (Now if I can ever get my *friggin* mail-in rebate back in this lifetime, I'll be all set!) ;)
