hi freq loss in 2"

hey all...i record mostly hard rock, heavy drum and guitar based music. Up till now i'd been forced to track digital (PT/radar/da88/etc).

anyways...i was wondering what you guys do when tracking to compensate for hi freq loss...(yes the machine is well maintained and biased properly)

i was thinking of putting some hf cut on the mix bus during tracking..so that my micing is brighter...ideas?

It depends on how long your project runs, if it's a long drawn-out thing, you'll notice it most on snare and OH, then later on the guitars. The longer it takes, the more you'll be crackin' the top in the mix.

High frequency problems when tracking? Strange.

I assume you are already monitoring the playback head while checking the sound and adjusting level to tape.

You shouldn't be hearing any high frequency loss problems if your machine is properly aligned and running well.

BTW for the kind of music you are doing, I would definitely prefer to track to 2", then Radar or PT+Apogee, and DA88 in last place.
