Hows this for a front end?

I've been tearing my brain to pieces trying to pick a middle line preamp. Does anyone have any comments on using the Langevin Dual Mono Mic Pre with EQ? It can be had for about $1100. What about the Langevin Pultec? Good stuff? No?
One last question... the Presonus MP20 claims to be a discrete class A preamp. Anyone heard this thing? Good price if its decent.

The Langevin gear is very nice stuff. I'd recomend going ahead and getting the Dual Vocal Combo with the El-Op compressor, the pricing for that unit is a bargain compared to seperate components, and there are tricks to use the parts of the signal chain independently.

Some people like the Presonus stuff, but I've heard a lot of opinions that the gear is lacking. And just because it's discrete class A doesn't mean it's good.

You might want to look at the Grace 101 and the forthcoming FMR RNMP (if you don't have the RNC compressor, budget for one soon). These should put good transparent pre's in the reach of modest budgets (like mine).

I've said it before, but the DVC is really good. Limiters are either great or terrible, depending on signal- they get a lot of use around here for vocals and bass. Great unit, price regardless!

Hmmmm... not finding this DVC anywhere... point me please
I'm kinda thinking about making 3 or 4 signal chains consisting of RNMP, RNC and a Speck. Sound smart? I wish they would post SOMETHING on the FMR webpage about it, maybe a little teaser info or something.

If you're talking about posting something on the FMR webpage about the "RNMP"...it's in the design/planning/pre-beta (hell, pre-alpha) stages of development. Some ideas have been kicked around, some designs messed with...but at this point it would be seriously premature for Mark to post anything about it.

IMO it is an incredible value. I played with one for a few hours and compared it to my pair of voxbox's. For the price difference (and in general) I was very pleased with the quality...


It can be had for about $1100.

That seems pretty low for a new unit, or is that from a dealer so desperate to make a sale they are willing to lose money on a deal and hurt the whole industry?

He was referring to the Langevin DualMicPre w/EQ which carries a retail tag of $1475 which he found for $1100 (not the DVC which retails at $2000)...

yes indeed they are.
Serial numbers LDVC### do not have the mod.
Serial numbers LDVCP### have the mod.
