Hi guys, first post here. Here is a one take, one mic recording of an original composition by my son. A little comp and reverb, no EQ. Guitar was a bit quiet, hence the use of compression. Critiques welcome

Sounds good. Ozone and RX both have the capability to raise the level of individual instruments in a mix. I would like to hear some more guitar to accompany the well done vocal.

I thought it was very good!

Can you tell us a little more about how you recorded it?:
(a) The make and model of microphone and pre-amp that you used
(b) Where you positioned the microphone relative to the voice and guitar
(c) The acoustic environment of the room you were recording in
(d) The order in which the effects were applied in the mix: e.g. EQ -> reverb -> compression

The reason I ask the question (d) is that your song has the effects louder relative to the vocal in the vocally louder passages, and order of applying effect and compression can give this result.

There is some boom from the guitar that careful microphone positioning on the instrument can reduce, but when you only use one microphone, there are compromises that have to be accepted.

Otherwise, well done!

The song was recorded more for just putting the idea down. Room was a well treated small room. The mic was a RODE NT2-a through a Altec 1566 type tube mic pre I built (NOS Telefunken tubes and original Altec OT) into a DP24 using line in. Mic was just sitting next to a DP24 and not properly placed. It was a bit high..., hence the vocal being hotter. No EQ was applied, but added comp and verb in Reaper. I think Verb was first and comp last. Should I reverse this?
I will re-recorded this with a better mic for both vocal and guitar.
