Can't compare it to a Mackie but I can compare it to a Focusrite Red1 and a Earthworks 1022 (both very high endd pres). I had a chance to try an MP20 in my studio for a couple of weeks. My conclusion is that is a very useful pre and sounds great with certain sources, especially female vox or drums. I did not like it at all for acoustic guitar though. YMMV, I am planning to pick one up to add to the kit.
