I'm interested in knowing if there are any tips specific to rap/hip hop recording/mixing/engineering? Especially dealing with bass...

And make sure you have a subwoofer in your system, or that your main system goes down pretty low.

Also, smoke alot of blunts and check your mixes in an iced-out stretch Navigator. You'll know the bass is right when your platinum teeth start to shake.

Melange obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. Anyone who works with rappers knows that you have to check the mix out in an iced-out stretch Escalade! :D ;)

Well I just have something for ya to think about. One big issue I have with most modern rap is it is so standard. The sounds used are simmilar, the beats are simmilar. Everything sounds really bad and cheezy. My suggestion to you is to just explore other elements. Maybe make some of your own synth patches. Maybe add some of your own instrumentation. Possibly play with the beat a little bit. I can appreciate some rap, when it is done with intelligent production and creativity. Just... think innovative
