Shure Ribbon 33 mic

I was digging through a box of cables,etc... and came across 2 old Shure ribbon Mics model #33. Anybody know anything about these? One seemed to work better than the other so I'm guessing some work needs to go into them to make them completely functional. Just wondering if it would be worth it? Am I sitting on a gold mine? Can I sell them on ebay and afford college tuition for my children? retire? Who would do repair?

They are ok ribbons, kind of noisy, but on fairly loud sounds workable.

The guy to repair them lives in Cottage Grove, MN.

Used to be with the Harmonicats, Dick Gardner. Also
repairs harmonicas, go figure.

Might be worth $200 each on a good day, will probably cost $100 each to tune up.

Not a goldmine, but probably worth fixing up.

I bought a 330 on Evilbay for $266US a couple of months back from a NY musician who was kind enough to ship it out to Oz for me. This one is in pristine condition and was serviced by Dick Gardner a few years ago......has the documentation to prove it.

They are renowned for being a low output mic and really need a decent preamp with them.

Apart from the Harmonicats, they were also well known from being seen regularly on Johnny Carson.

Thanks for the advise. I will seek out Mr. Gardner and have him do the repair.

I'll follow up if I have any difficulties or successes w/ it.

Just wondering what part of Wisconsin your located in. I have a SM-33 as well and I would be interested in an A/B listening of it next to one of your mic's after being repaired. If you would not mind, drop me an e-mail.

I have not used mine a lot. I have liked it on my voice in the past. I do recall that it does take a fair amount of gain to get it working well.
