I have a couple of Focusrite ISA-110s that, I'm told, need to be recapped. (One oscillates loudly at arbitrary moments, and the other is all distortion and not very loud - I fear it may need more than new caps.) Does "recapping" mean replacing absolutely all capacitors in the unit, or only the ones in certain sections, or only electrolytics, or? There appear to be about 100 or more caps in each unit. That's a whole lotta soldering. Having never done very much more than patchbay soldering before, is this a job I should leave to someone with experience?

Thanks,

I once soldered about 500 caps in my Trident 65 console. It took 2 weeks and the board sounded amazing!

I wasn't certain I could do it either, but once I talked to my tech and tried a few, it was very easy. Unlike some other electronic components, caps have a fixed polarity, so you have to follow how they come out and how the new ones go in.

Go for it!
