I was looking for some advice for mic preamps. I am looking for a well rounded preamp that would be good for metal (distorion) and Vocals. My budget is around $2,000. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, any advice on the preamps that have a eq feature on them too would awesome.

There are 4 different OSA preamps. The MP1-A "the Original", MP1-C "the Vintage", MP1-L "the Mutant", MP1-L3 "the Big Daddy". Each of the 4 have a different microphone input transformer, making them very diverse. You can go from clean to colored just by your choice of preamp. The MP1-A is the cleanest of the preamps. For bass DI - the L3. For heavy electric guitar amps - the C, sometimes the L3. For vocals, the L3 most of the time. Also the L on vocals if you need more high end (compared to the L3).

I do alot of metal, and I LOVE my Great River MP2-NV (2 channel mic pre) And like DaveDog was saying, you won't need any EQ with the Great River (either), they are really that good. Loads of distortion. The settings are soft, or real massive with lots of grit. All depends on you and the way you set it up. Gain wise, & ect.
It's VERY versital, to say the least, but amazing is a more accurate description.
(my 2 cents)
