Did you heard Greg Bennett- Samick Guitar?

I am not sure if I am answering a question here.... ? But ..... uh... well.... I had a friend growing up who had this Samick 4 string bass guit. It was a neck thru and just really well made. I mean this bass had a low enuf tone, with this ultra bright attack. Best bass I ever played.

Samick is a joint venture between a couple of music manufacturers, one of them being Yamaha (the other maybe Kaman? Don't remember). They are essentially the company that makes most of the "Made in Korea" instruments on the market today. This includes Epiphone, Hamer (not "USA"), the PRS "SE" line, and a slew more. They are set up to mass-produce geetars on an alarming scale and do it pretty damned well. They have actually hit a bump in the road-Chinese and Indonesian knock-offs.
Greg Bennett was a consultant to many of these companies re-locating their manufacturing to Korea, and I believe that Samick is attempting to get their own identity in a crowded marketplace with his designs. Anyway, pretty good bang for the buck.

One of my students has a Samick/Bennett Les Paul copy. To be honest, when he got it, I was actually surprised at how bad the quality was. A few months later, I looked at a few in a music store and confirned my general thoughts.

Although the Samick factory is the biggest in the world, it appears to me that they use the bad wood that they can't use on other companies' orders. ALL of the wood on all of the Samicks I've seen has been real bad.

The frets are very poorly finished. On one guitar, the E string got caught on the end of a fret!!

The top on my student's Les Paul copy isn't even actually a top. It's just a thin veneer.

The fretboard inlays are very poorly done. They are often higher or lower than the fretboard, and the routings are done far too big, resulting in extreme amounts of filler around the inlays.

I absolutely DO NOT recommend Samick instruments. If you want a good inexpensive guitar, go with a Kramer or a RavenWest. They just can't be beat for the money.

I owned a Greg Bennet design Samick guitar, strat-style, but it wasn't good at all.

Detuned all the time, even with the strings that come standard with it.
I had the problem with the high E string getting stuck under the 17th fret while I was playing.
The first fret on every string produced an awful sound cause the string rubbed against the second fret.
I broke so many strings with it you can't even imagine, probably like 1 string a week (compared to 1 string breaking each 6 months on my Ibanez).
The pick-ups basically destroyed my sound, even with a good amp, and gave a really bad hum (single-coils I know give out more hum, but compared to anything I tried they we're even worse).
The pick-up selector switch fell off like a month after I bought the guitar, and the volume knob wasn't doing anything after a year.
Basically a piece of ****.

I'm just glad I sold it with a bad amp for 210$ CAN (purchased at 275$ CAN for both).
