hi all

another vocal mic question:

the RODE nt1a sounds pretty good, and is just right for my price range ($2-300), but i would prefer something with a... warmer (?)... sound, a deeper sound perhaps. the RODE is a bit too bright for my purposes?

any suggestions, similar budget (mostly vocals, 70s jazz/funk style, but maybe something that could on rare occasions be used on acoustic guitar)... i have been reading in the forums about AT4033 which seems to be recommended in similar conversations, but i understand that it's also quite bright sounding. what is the ADK A51S like?

any suggestions?

thanks!

My experience with the AT4040 is that it's very neutral and if you're looking for warm, without a tube preamp or something of that sort, that particular mic probably won't get you the sound you're seeking. It does work well for male vocals and acoustic guitar when I've used it. I believe it retails for $300.

thanks maintiger,
i do indeed have the latter, so i'll stick with the ksm27 or the sp C1...

not to to make it more complicated by throwing yet another one into the mix, but doing some more searching round the forum and on the web, i heard about the m-audio solaris, which seems to be getting really good reviews for the same price range and has a supposedly "warm" sound to it.

did anyone have a similar dilemma and end up choosing the solaris?

thanks to all....
