I recently got some advice on a preamp for my mic. I was told to get a lunchbox 6b and a API 212L mic preamp, but when Vintageking sent me both it didn't look like they were compatable. Did I get bad advice and waste my money or am I not looking at this right? Do I need a 512 or will the 212 work? If the 212 works, can someone explain to me how it fits in the Lunchbox 6b?

Yep, the 212L is part of the 200 series and is of a different size. No luchbox for the 200 series that I have seen unless it as a DYI thing. If you now have the API 6B, then you'll want the current API 512C or any API or compaible 500 series module, and there are now quite a few to choose from that are not made by API. Call back and explain, and they should be willing to take back the 212 for the 512 for the price difference.

The only difference has been the progression of the Jensen microphone transformer from the K110 to the K115. They changed it from a 10 to 1 winding to a 15 to 1 winding which more changes the output level than the character of the sound and so also relates to a difference in signal-to-noise. The only difference in circuit layout is the circuit board they are mounted on since a 2520 is a 2520 is a 2520 and IS the sound of the API microphone preamplifier. The output transformers are all identical with 3 matching secondary outputs which can be used independently, for up to 3 isolated outputs or, combined to provide different output levels and headroom.

AFAIK the 200 series modules fit into the 200 series, 12-slot rack (API L200R). Whereas the 500 series modules fit into the 500-6B Lunchbox.
