I've been using mine for over a year and I really like it for what it does (esp. the Plexi and AC30 models), but then, I don't have the ears that you pros do. Takes some tweaking, but I like it better than the Line6/Digitech/Boss/Vox stuff. It's more organic sounding (the dirt doesn't get over compressed sounding or fizzy?), cleans up nicely with the volume on the guitar. I might prefer real amps if I were gigging again, but for just banging around the basement and hanging with the old gang every once in a while, I'd never be able to justify the expense of 8 more amps (to go with the 2 already there) lining the walls (hard enough justifying the dozen guitars to my wife).

When you get a chance, you should try it out and give it a thumbs up/down.

Some new amp models/cabs (including a bass amp/cab), effects, and a channel strip along with speaker break-up are coming in March according to Avid.

Like all this plug-in crap, its very usable and easy to get it all happening ITB. That's the coolest thing about it all. If you are getting PT, it would be great to have.Using this live is the step in the right direction. Sounds great.

Yes, I have the rack and not the plug. I know it's all market speak, but check out some of Sean Halley's videos. I've found the True-Z input settings to be really useful. Info from their blog is here: [[url=http://[/URL]="http://community.av…"]The Truth About True-Z - Inside Out[/]="http://community.av…"]The Truth About True-Z - Inside Out[/] (it may be all in the marketing, but it seems to work).

Yup they are charging for it. I've had a great time with it the way it is, but I will probably go for the expansion pack when it becomes available.

You guys make me want to spend money. I'd have to hear it first hand to feel if it's right. A guy I work with just bought a Mesa Triple Rectifier. If you can get that feel out of an emulator, I would be sold. I have a Vox Tonelab and it's nice but I don't know if it feels right. I also have Guitar Rig 4 which can sound great but it doesn't have that feel either.

Everyone has their own expectations and opinions when it comes to tone and feel, so I won't even try to suggest that the 11 will fit from that perspective. Try it with a couple of guitars that you are very familiar with. The worst that could happen is that you don't like it and think it's a piece of crap. I like my guitars and amps, and given a choice, I wouldn't be using a modeler regardless of how good it is. There is just something magical about your favorite guitar going straight to a (insert favorite amp here).

I can say this about the 11 after having owned several of these amp sims including the Tonelab (formerly my favorite of these) and several Pods:
Don't judge it by the presets. Pick an amp/amps that you are familiar with and set them up as you are used to. Play around with the True Z settings. Picking dynamics have an effect on the sound in the 11 so depending on how the amp is set up you can go from clean to dirty without changing any settings. Same if you use the volume and tone knobs on the guitar to control how much dynamics you get. Clean and dirty are relative, some amps are hard to get completely "clean" (think plexi), and some you have to push hard to get really "dirty" (twin). The amps in the 11 will react differently to different guitars depending on the pickups (SC or HB), woods (or whatever materials) and tuning of the guitar (dropped/alternate) (they actually optimized a lot of the different presets for strat-tele-lp style players, some obvious some not, eg. Black Hat = Slash so Les Paul with a medium output, Sweet Open G = Keith Richards/Tele single coil missing low E, etc.).

At any rate, it fits the bill for what I need now. It's not perfect but sounds good and until I can afford to buy all the real amps and have the space to store them, it'll get me through and keep my wife from killing me.
