I just now have the opportunity to give a license of Samplitude Pro X3 away. I wonder what kind of contest or giveaway we could do?

Any thoughts, please share them here.

Just give it to me and stop wondering about it !! :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, it's very hard to be fair in any audio contests and worst on forum cleverness or knowledge.
The simplest thing to do is to give it to a random member in the 50 or 100 more active ones (not specially to the more active member which might be you.. ;) )

Or, you could make a list of interested people and pick a random one in that list.. (through a survey maybe ?)

Thanks for the input, Marco. I've updated this to a giveaway too.

I agree about contests. They rarely end well. But I still have hope and like to hear peoples thoughts.

It would have to be someone that is actually wanting it and would use it. Its coming out of my pocket per-say as well. Kyle would have been a great candidate (he just bought Pro x)

I haven't received it yet. Won't be for a while but that doesn't stop us from thinking about some sort of giveaway.

Make sure you give it to someone who's enjoying the engineering side of things... Because as much as I tried, and still trying I can't get this DAW to work for me. There is a pirated version sitting at my laptop for demo purposes with only getting used for it's 'Retrospective Record' feature. But I just can't get into this program. I feel like it's impossible to produce in it. Some little thing stops you. I've tried but failed to get into this DAW as much as I loved and tried it.

Welcome to our community but I have to scold you for mentioning the use of hacked software. This is the most despicable / deplorable way to treat our industry. You are using a pirated version and are having problems with it. No wonder.

And you are wondering why its not working for you.

Samplitude is most likely the most stable software I have ever used (the paid for version). That being said, what is it that isn't working for you?

Well it is true that I get it from a pirate means but the overall hours I put into this software is lower than 20 hours. The problem with official demoes is 30 minute day mark. It's not always possible to focus in that little amount of time. That was my reasoning. Other than that, being my first DAW, I did fail at Samplitude. But it was too hard...

What stops me is some unintuitive thing finding me in the work flow. The majority of my time with Samplitude was spent on duplicating tracks. After learning there is no duplicating tracks I had some trouble with FX chains. I wasn't able to reorder the chain to my pleasure plus there was no option to put a limiter at (always) the end of effect chain.

Through my little journey, after cruticiating googling, i found that there was a little FX button that would let me rearrange the FXs AND would let me copy and paste the FX chain. It was really rewarding to learn that. So after all, basically all I wanted was there, but it was so hard to find compared to drag&drop method of other user friendly DAWs incorporate. I'm not saying Samp ain't the champ. I've read enough forum discussions and watched enough of kraznet to know that but I didn't have enough time to get to know it. You just don't want to invest in a DAW that scares you. There are too many what if's. I was afraid to get into it, although knowing rewards would be better than any half-assed products out there. Because Samp really lets you audio edit, record, midi edit, mix and master. Although I'm alien to mastering part. It has a good enough video side to it too.

Only reason I still have Samplitude installed at my computer is because it's retrospective feature. And I don't like my Cubase copy enough to do that while still happy to see that MAGIX logo.

Indeed.

I know a very tiny amount about hacking. And sometimes during the process in order to stop the host from connecting to the internet to check to make sure it's legit, it cuts off communication with the company...and that last part can cause features not to work. Bc after the install, it connects to the parent to finish installation. If it's hacked software, it's most likely going to have problems.

Also, pirated software is often not free. You know how when you Dl stuff from whoever, it can come with advertising programs etc. Pirated stuff can come with worse...much worse. Some people are hacking just for the fun of it (it's extremely challenging). Some people are doing it for money. And some people are doing it because the hack comes with other stuff. It's much easier to place malicious files in a hacked copy and let people DL it, than to hack each personal computer. Once it's a torrent, everyone is now sharing it. It's like an STD.

There is a much better solution. It's not free, but it's legal, and much safer. People are selling their stuff all the time bc you can transfer serial ownership so easily now. Craigslist, eBay etc. You get the real deal, full package, with no worries, for a fraction of the cost. "Used" software isn't like a car....miles don't accumulate. It stays new. So just buy used. E.g. I just got Komplete 10 for $175. I think it was close to $700-ish new before 11 came out.

Imo, the best way to learn is to have at least an idea of which road you want to take (daw wise) and then get a shortcut keyboard like these https://www.editorskeys.com
You will figure things out much quicker, you'll pick up the work flow much faster, you'll see more easily what is possible. I have their wireless PT keyboard and it's nice.

Lastly, from the items you listed as trying and not being fond of....have you tried FL Studio? I like it 100x better than Cubase, and I own both. No matter what you get, you are going to have to put the time into learning it. Allow yourself 1,000 hours for that. And a shortcut keyboard will get you there faster.

lol, that's what I was going to say!

But audiokid , what if you just pick a number between 1 and whatever (you have to pick the top of the range). Then tell two other people who aren't eligible what that number is. I'm sure there must be at least two other people here who already have Samplitude. So you state upfront, who is not participating and will thus know the number.

Then, start a thread and everyone gets one guess. Whoever is closest wins. With no "going over" rule like The Price is Right. E.g. If the number you picked was 101, 102 is still an eligible guess, and would win over 99, bc it's closer to your number.

Just keep the thread open for a certain period of time. Whoever gets in, gets in. And whoever is closest wins. Friends will let each other know it's happening so, all the regulars should get in with plenty of time.

And there can be no duplicate guesses. If Marco were to guess the #1, the #1 would now be "owned" by Marco. If there is a duplicate guess, people in the thread will usually say something, and the person will just change their number.

In other words, if you accidentally guess a number someone else already has, you aren't disqualified, you just change your number to one that is available. It works.

When the thread closes, it closes. You find the winner and post your number, the other two people who knew the number confirm that was the number.

Where the biggest problem comes in is new people. I've done this before but in a totally different type of forum. And what happened was new people were signing up...and I don't think they were all legit. I think some people were signing up for new accounts to get more guesses. I don't foresee that being a large problem on RO. Also, that prize was much larger (hard to even put a value on it) But since you will be running it, I wanted to give you the info so you can figure out how you want to deal with that.

I think to make Samplitude tick one needs to think in terms of objects rather than tracks. Samplitude's Object Editing makes half of the typical track approach useless. It gives a nice boost to linear way of writing as opposed to loops and midi stacks/dupes. That's why as a want-to-be Composer it has a little edge to it's competitors. But the problem with Samp is lack of advertising. All they have to do is hire a guy finish an electronic track or orchestral trailer. And present a useful workflow to people, especially newcomers. I wonder what Seq 14 will bring... I mean Samplitude almost is a Seq now. It will be fun to what Magix presents.

One real itch against Samp is their automation copying. You can't copy and paste automation as far as I know. I don't know if that has changed in X3. I didn't see at the changelog and I remember reading someone from Magix forums saying it still didn't have that. This kind of things sad to be honest. Because Samplitude users doesn't need Soundforge. They need their strong daw living to it's potential. This is my real criticism against Magix and their approach to upgrades.

Well said. (y)

Hmm, I'm boggled right now. There was something in automation that was buggy, I wonder what that was. I remember reading it in the latest x3 forum in MAGIX forums.

Another thing to mention about objects is you can select a region with multi tracks and all the objects which included in those are copiable. Let's say you have signature sound that contains 10 tracks with 25 objects that are edited surgically, you can drag and drop them to the browser and they will be saved as a recallable object file. I don't know if this multiple approach is available in x3 now. AFAIK, it was only available in Sequoia.

This is available for both Sequoia and Samplitude. This discussion, however on time stretching may be related to what you are asking? http://recording.org/threads/samplitude-time-stretching-multiple-tracks.59808/
