I'm still using a DDP as my main compressor/limiter. I've had this thing for about 5 years now and have not had any problems. And I know there's others that'll make it look as if you're using this thing like a Alesis 3630. What I'm wondering is, will I need to upgrade to a better compressor or have an additional compressor added? My other's are software based. And Personally, I like the DDP with it's array of presets and other useful stuff. It sounds good too. So what should it be?

Hey Gaff, I appreciate the logic you put into the answers you give us here at R.O. Well, I'm mostly looking for something for vocals & a little tonage. I guess I'll keep the DDP for what it's been used for... for the last five years. Some of the presets sound pretty good on vocals and instruments but I'm looking for a little variety.

Hard to beat the LA2A for vocals. The Manley El-Op is a lot like the LA2A and gives you two channels. I'm also a fan of API 525, Tube-Tech CL1B or CL2A, all are great for vocals and more and still have nice tone enhancement. dbx 160SL, Focusrite Red-3 or Red-7 work well for vocals and yet can be used on many other sources/applications as well. Even the Joe Meek stuff like thye VC1/VC1Q, SC2 comp can have a unique smooth effect on vocals.

And although the dbx DDP is an outboard hardware box, it is a digital/software compressor.
