I am trying to find the software equivalent of a SIMPLE 2 track mixdown deck that can use SPDIF or OPTICAL and will lock to MMC, that way I can do away with using my computer as a mix-down mixer, and then use my Fostex D2424LV my Behringer DX3216 Mixer and my computer as a very simple MMC controlled wave recorder/editor. What I am looking for probably sounds silly, but something very simple, like a WinAmp Recording Program with MMC. Does Such a Thing Exist?

But you've got to remember that with Samp/Sequoia, you owe NO one any explanations or apologies.

Unfortunately, that's a lot of my client base.
You'd be surprised how many calls I get where this is the conversation flow:
Me: "Sublyme Records, this is Jeremy."
Punk: "Hi, what gear do you use to record"
Me: "State of the art analog and digital gear selected for being the best"
Punk: "Yeah, but do you use ProTools and Neumann microphones?"
Me: "Well, I use Sequoia and I have a collection of over 30 microphones to choose from."
Punk: "You don't use ProTools? I need a studio with ProTools so I can get a professional recording!"
Me: "Well, the software behind it is more a matter of preference."
Punk: "Okay - I'm going to "X" Studio who's ProTools certified..."
I get calls like this at least 3 times a week!
I don't plan on dumping Sequoia, but PT would have been nice to "have" in the studio even if I didn't need it.
However, for the original poster - both the MBox and the Mackie unit I referenced would probably work just fine for you (though I'm not sure about the optical capabilities). Both software is controllable by MMC.

I just went to Guitar Center this weekend looking for a decent back up recorder (2-track). I actually got an M-box 2. I have to admit - I hated it. I tried it with my laptop and it crashed 6 times during the live recording. :evil: :evil: :evil:
SOOOOO, I took it back. (I was kinda stoked about the M2 - this way, when the 16 year old punks called me and asked me if I was a ProTools studio, I could say "Yes" even if I had no intent of really recording to it...)
Instead, I ordered the Mackie 400F. It looks like it will give me FAR more flexible - includes well-reviewed pres, direct analog inputs (goes straight to the AD - bypassing the pres), MIDI in/out, AES and SPDIF I/O.
It looks like this, plus the free software it comes with might be just what the doctor ordered. It might be overkill for you, but it can't hurt to have too much...
