Hello there, over the last year i've recorded and mixed about 50 songs in my bedroom/studio using my ol' digi001 - the persuasion of friends has led me to start thinking about sending these off to record labels etc - and i'd like to get them as good as i can using the equipment i've got - most importantly id like to run them thru my RNC 1773 compressor...
trouble is...i've only really worked internally in pro tools and once sound goes in...it never comes out! In order to apply some 'super nice' compression over the entire mix do i do the following...
route all track/bus/master outputs to an external output (say Analogue 3/4) and then connect up the RNC and return via front digi inputs (Analogue 1/2) - then set up
1) an Aux Stereo track with inputs and outputs set to Analogue 1/2 and then bounce from these A1/2 outputs
or
2) 2 x Aux Mono tracks with inputs and outputs set to Analogue 1/2 and then bounce from these A1/2 outputs
or
3) 2 x Audio tracks enabling me to record from Analogue inputs 1&2 then bounce later.
or NONE OF THE ABOVE!
i've also got a BBE sonic Maximizer, which i'd like to use (sparingly!) do i put this in a chain with the RNC, and if so before or after?

you want to come out of the main outputs, route through the comp
you want to come out of the main outputs, route through the compressor and back into protools. Just be carefull not to create a feedback loop on the return. just turn your monitors way down and listen for a sound of death, then you'll know you have a feedback loop, put the return outputs to something else. You may not be wowed with your compressor on the mix bus. but doesn't hurt to give it a go and see if it does anything magical.
