I'm not usually one to rant; however, there is a song that has been out for a while that has me so confounded that I feel I must do something. The song? 'Angel' by Amanda Perez. This has to be the biggest per capita piece of crap I have ever heard. After 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, it's still sitting comfortably at #20. The production is weak; the harmony consists of a single piano lazily plunking out triads in first inversion and I won't even talk about that completely ridiculous vocal effect toward the end. The lyrics are trite and predictable. The singer is middling at best and she isn't even cute to make up for it [cough*spears*cough]. Everytime it comes on the radio, I have to flee to another channel. I can't believe that people are buying this song! Am I alone? Is there any other POS out there that really gets under your skin?

Yesterday I went to a CD store and listen to a few releases. Last Toto, Peter Gabriel, Kansas, etc. Man, I got so disappointed with Toto. Their new CD sound like a new band that is fighting for airplay so it records lots of old hits from Bob Marley.
Guys, I topped the Cd player, opened it to see if I had not put the wrong Cd. Hey, is this Big Mountain?
No, It was Toto - I got shocked. Nice arrangements, mixes, but it totally SUCKED.
New Peter Gabriel albums is reasonable, but miles away from "So" and previous hit albums.
Seems people do not have too much to tellor show nowadays.
Even the latest Rush albums sounds weird, awfully mstered, weird harmonies.
So, what do ya guys think about it?

I totally agree on the latest RUSH CD, Vapor Trails. I am a fan of the group and admire their playing, but what's with the chokingly compressed guitar from ifeson. Was this a major flaw in engineering, or is this the sound that they were after? All of these guys are super-pros and never dissapoint in a performance, but the way that recording sounded, it was Peart doing some interesting things on drums and Geddy Lee doing a solid performance and they were accompanied by Lifeson who was playing well but through an old AM transistor radio. Please tell me that this is not the preferred way of recording now. I know that they use a different engineer this time. Is this a reflection of the engineer's taste? Whatever, it sounded over-processed and weak.

Hey Everybody,
I saw Beck last night at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver and he was great, great, great. I went at the last second and ended up seated 12th row in the middle (I was a tad scared, because I had seen Beck a few years ago- amazing show- and didn't want to be disappointed by a bad show this time). The material from his most recent album really shined. He knows how to work a crowd. I think his next album is going to go through the roof. Doc
