I'm curious about the sound used on some Jennifer Lopez records -esp. Jenny from the Block. While she has a very unremarkable voice, I think it is beautifully recorded in this case. I love that almost wispy quality -an antidote to all of those fat sounding vocals, yet it's not thin.

I know it was done by the same engineer who worked on Thriller, who happens to be a Royer fanatic. It has been suggested to me that it's an AKG C12 VR on the voice, but I'm not so sure. Never heard a Telefunken elam 251, but from various descriptions I've read, I wonder if that's the sort of sound it has.

Many thanks

PS I can't believe I just mentioned J-Lo on a public forum. If any of my friends see this...

It's very rarely that I'm so intrigued by a sound that I have to find out how it was made. I wonder if it's possible that this is a Brauner VM-1. The engineer has said it's his favourite vocal mic. Whether it's that or a C12 I want one NOW! Of course it's probably plugged into a desk that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars -I'm sure that just might have something to do with it as well
