A friend of mine gave me pro tools 8 le because i wanted to start recording. What hardware do i need? and what can i use? I know about mbox's and m-audio interfaces, but there very highly priced. id like something that gives me a lot of control like the Yamaha mg mixers or Behringer mixers with multiple channels. should i stick with pro tools, or change programs so i can have cheaper easier access to more channels.

Well, whatever you do you won't get help here unless you are using your software legally. Unless you have described the situation incorrectly your friend did not transfer the PT license to you legally.

In any event there are some advantages to starting with PT - particularly all of the tutorials, books, classes that are available. I believe there are legal ways to transfer used versions of PT - usually with hardware. However, PT is not the cheapest way to go. There are free options like Audacity and very inexpensive, high quality options like Reaper.
